I say yes but no idea what I would ask, I want tot know more about the long war modders being hired and what they are going to release in a few days, as I haven't heard much other than there will be two minds from the first day.
There's some long war mods in from day 1, nothing tooooo crazy (yet) but the was a panel at pax south (look it up, if you find it on twitch I think it's around the 2hr 20 mark for firaxis/xcom 2).
There will be 3 bits from the long war creators:
1) Muton Centurion: bigger, badder muton that buffs soldiers around him, appears at a suitable point in the campaign
2) SMG weapons: Kinda like in long war, you get a weapon that's smaller/lighter with a lower damage trade off. The extra point this time is that it affects the aliens detection range (you start each mission "cloaked" now as you're the attacker this time) so guys with SMG's will be able to get closer before they trigger a response.
3) There's an "officer" type skill tree that goes on top of any units usual skills (again, ala long war). The trade off being that officers can't go on the same missions together any more so it will restrict your choices a bit (on top of resources etc).
Trying to find the pax south video but... dunno.
Edit: bingo, this should be it and the X-com banner pops up a few seconds after 2:20 so yeah, there.
The point of the panel was to talk about modding and tbh the scope available looks massive. They're basically giving us all the tools they used to build the game and there's a LOT of the underlying engine that helps modding (down as far as each action in the tacticals is recorded and replayable/rewindable, you can change views with dev mode enabled to help debug what guys can see/pathing/etc).
From what they look to have on offer (along with the hiring of the long war guys basically making a push towards "come on community - work with us! Maybe get hired!") I think we can expect a crazy amount of stuff to be available for it. Like, Skyrim levels of modding going on with community made campaigns and all sorts.
3 days!
I'm sure there's some good reviews out there but heres another from one my preferred sources:
