X-Com 2 - Announced

ahh ok, thanks. That seems more in line with traditional pre-order offerings, usually its not much more than a good will gesture as a thanks, and starting with a well levelled soldier seemed closer to a bribe to preorder than we'd usually see.
Cosmetic items and a minor perk isnt going to ruin anything.

I've watched the TB video, and 5/6ths of the PAX panel, and thats not helped my stance of trying to stay firm and wait for a discount. £26 seems to be as cheap as it gets. I cant even argue its an unreasonable price, its just not cheap enough to say screw it, so i'll probably be teetering on the fence for a while longer, waiting to be pushed.

They imo needed to heavily pad out the customization and weapons gadgets etc etc but doesn't look like they have so this just looks like new maps to me.

It's worth looking into some of the common ini file changes for the long war, they actually recommend you tweak it to your taste. I found the base game a little unfair, and just not fun later on, but with a few damage/to hit/enemy number tweaks it really comes into its own.

Some of the end-game terror mission are insane :)

£23 odd at CD Keys with a Facebook like. Just bought mine yesterday.

Without detailing the thread (and without wanting to start a new thread for a single question) in the first xcom how are you supposed to capture a live alien?

Every time I try getting close they just kill me, lost 3 good guys trying it :(

Kill everything else first, try not to 'activate' it (i.e. if its the shard Alien, don't get too close to the UFO) and get it down to 2 health with your first soldier if possible (pistols are good for this) allowing your soldier with the stun weapon to get in close and fire it at the Alien.

its one of those stupid things where its a PITA, and then once you've done it seems fairly simple.
Most of it is planning for it, getting the guy in close, preferably complete out of view, so that their next turn they can get into the zone and zap 'em. As Vinny says, pistols are your best friend for getting their health into the acceptable level.
Take out all their friends, and if need be, hunker down and take your time.

Cheers chaps.

I'm tempted to use a couple of rookies to suicide charge him and distract him and zap him whilst he wipes out the cheap guys :p

I prefer the ooooold xcom way, just shoot the **** out of them and hope the odd one survives. No delicate work :D

I changed the ini file to increase the pace of long war, i like the harder difficulty but I can't stand having to do 50 missions per R&D cycle.

I've edited my ini to create a difficult & about tripple the length of the game game - with all the additional tech tree stuff.

I've removed the base aim bonuses on all difficulties but kept them fight the higher rank enemies, it makes the progression feel smoother - I've also heavily reduced the repair/rearm interceptor speed & increase the fighter health for those early skirmishes.

Fatigue shouldn't last more than 5 days & I've reduced injury timers to a 30d max for critical.

You should be able to pre-load it on Steam now. Get the download going, if you have a bad connection.

Pre-loading now and the countdown on the store page seems to indicate a 6am Friday release.

Now if you'll excuse me I need to grab a weekends worth of supplies and then sleep for 30 hours or so.
