X-Com 2 - Announced

My game got stuck on what I guess was the Tutorial bit.

After the mission to retrieve the power thing, on the base section I went to Engineering and built a med kit then went to Research and set the research to the weapons thing and then all I could do was go out of and back in to the research screen.

Strange, havent had any bugs as of yet, my only real complaints are the off-centered 'centered' stuff.

Thats the health bars not being anywhere near the character in some cases, the character screen having the edit/remove/class stuff off-centered to the left, the 'are you sure' stuff off-centered to the right, and the targeting also being nowhere near the person you're shooting at (more annoying when theres 2 together, but at least the red outline helps).

I've also used Afterburner/Rivatuner to lock it at 30fps. It runs at 60fps but 100% usage and 90% fan usage (custom fan setting @75-80c). I've never suffered from low fps (unless they were really bad), and i'd rather have the quiet over the extra framerate.

edit - i should have pointed out that the off-centered issues are almost certainly caused by them not implementing proper calculations for ultrawide screens, should be fine for regular 16:9 type screens.

Hmm, so I figured I've played a lot of XCom I'll be okay starting on Commander. Got annihilated on the first mission after the tutorial...

Played a bit of X-COM this evening. Though by "played" I mean getting wiped in the first proper tutorial mission (though in my defence I wasn't really in the mood... :o) and then spending three hours in the character pool.

I already need more customisation options dammit! :D

I've managed to survive the first 2 missions after the tutorial without any deaths, but have 3 soldiers gravely wounded. Tense stuff with the timers, really forces you to rush which isn't my preferred game style. Don't mind having timers on some missions, but sounds as if they are present on nearly all. For those with performance issues switching off FXAA and vsync does help a lot ( or it did for me anyway ).

Seems to be a bug with line of sight sometimes. I've seen enemies shoot and move through walls a few times, where they shouldnt be able to.

That's common in XCom games. You'll get used to it.

It's just a pity they didn't eradicate it completely for XCom 2.

Soo, just finished it on Veteran - started on commander difficulty but had a fair amount of grief from the first few missions.

Oddly the game gets easier, not harder as you progress - something I'd like to see changed with mods. Once you get a full squad of max rank troops with top tier weapons + armour you can take a full volly in the face from any enemy point blank.

This you can never do early one, hence it getting easier.

Same here, I don't like being forced into a specific play style. Almost every mission's been like that so far too.

That's always been the case, the first half dozen missions are always almost impossible, which I've never liked. When you get lucky and survive, stats go up, get better armour, better weapons and generally out research the aliens.

Can you not build multiple Workshops down the middle? I put one in the top middle, and want to put one in the space below but its not being listed. I'd heard it be said it was a good idea because of them supplying extra drone/bot things?

If you build a workshop, it can staff adjacent spaces with drones according to the description.

So where you have it will allow buildings to either side & the one below to be staffed by drones.

Yeah, i realise that bit, thats why i want to have a column of them down the middle :D i'd be able to use 1 person to run a drone on the left and right side of it.

I'm sure you can only have one Workshop. Think Christopher Odd mentioned that in his base facilities overview vid.

I haven't got that far myself yet,.

ah, it does look that way. maybe it changed from the preview build cos im sure both he and Biscuit mentioned it being a good idea. Perhaps they didnt get that far either and just assumed it'd be good to do that, or maybe in 1 slot lower, cos i can only connect with 3 tiles if its in the top row.
