X-Com 2 - Announced

You can stop the timer if you do something to lower the level again though. So its not definitely game over once the counter starts.

* Don't use explosives around the evac site - I was heading for a rooftop evac with a VIP on a different mission and a pod of 3 enemies appeared right at the evac site, so I thought I would fire a grenade to weaken them. It destroyed the evac site and the game spawned a new one absolutely miles away!!! I only just managed to get to it but took heavy casualties in the process

That is good to know, I am blowing up everything now (I have to). Somehow must have missed the evac site so far.

Basically if the evac zone (on a tactical, either the default one or one you call) is on a roof and the floor gets blown away (making it obviously un-usable), central pipes up about it being compromised and it moves.

Ahh okay I hadn't twigged that it was because of it being on a roof - just assumed the explosives blew it up (and have avoided doing the same ever since)... Good to know though!

How exactly do the weapon upgrades work? Like if I use an upgrade on my Ranger's Shard gun now, will I lose it when I upgrade Ranger weapons? Or do upgrades stay with the solider?

Weapon Upgrades are locked to the weapon by default, however one of the bonuses from having contacted all locations in a continent allows you to keep them.

The upgrades carry over when you upgrade the weapon tier (so for instance if you put a sight onto the shard gun it will still be on it when you upgrade to the 3rd tier shotgun)

ffs, another game corrupted by the counter on events going into minus. Going to have the shelve the game until after a patch or two.

Ah brill, it's updating now. Fingers crossed :)

Worked, chuffed! Is it just me or is the cutscene framerate actually worse now?

Just when I thought I was getting on top of things, base taking shape, troops ranking up, finally some decent weps and upgrades (spent all my intel at black market so could not expand or make contacts), last night I was starting to feel confident, until the most diabolical mission so far. Absolute nightmare. Handled the Codex ok but when I killed it, it seemed to turn into a psycho, purple-haired alien. Mind-control, insane weaponry, health regen, battered most of my squad, I had to start saving and reloading just to survive, it was ridiculous. When my battered squad rushed (limped) to the objective (I now hate those timers) the big tank thing turned up and immolated my best solider. Just one-hitted him out of nowhere. All my best armour and everything and he was insta-dead. No way to save him and secure the objective. I’m still in shock.

I was actually annoyed at it last night but I can see what they’re doing with the game. Have to admit it’s pretty exciting and it was certainly a memorable mission! I couldn’t sleep for a while afterwards. Still thinking about it, but have to admit, despite the random pauses and glitches, this is a great game. I will enjoy a lot of time here, easily. Couldn’t really get into any of the last few games I played, star wars etc. very pretty but no real depth. This is the one.

Wait til the last mission....Dreading that on my Commander Ironman run.

Still not sure how you get a 'Magi'?

Do you have to put that Wraith armour on them after they have learnt every psi ability?

That's actually my main peeve with the game. You can't plan for a lot of what the aliens throw at you until after it's happened. Which is realistic I suppose, but doesn't help if that first jack-in-the-box wiped out your entire squad. Especially when the same thing happens an hour later with a new alien ability you couldn't have seen coming.

Had a weird bug (more like a series of bugs) last night... (Commander Ironman)

VIP evacuation mission (the one where you have the VIP at the start and just need to get to evac)... We all started out atop a building and on the first move to the buildings edge spotted the first pod - an Andromedon, Shieldbearer and Elite Trooper...

So thinking I can capitalise on the height advantage I move everyone to the edge of the building in a big long firing-squad line... I'm reluctant to use all my explosives on this first pod as I suspect a Sectopod or other nasty enemies are ahead, so I take all my shots, Shieldbearer down... Andromedon ends up with about 1 pip of health; I figure he can't climb the building so the worst that will happen is a pot-shot at one of my guys... Unfortunatley this was the first time I hadn't taken this enemy out on the same turn I engaged it...

He charged into the building, smashing most of the wall below us to pieces... then threw an acid grenade which hit the entire squad (luckily the VIP was further back) for about 5 damage, shredded all of their armor and then the entire front half of the building collapsed and they all fell taking further damage (plus were all acid-burned)!!!

It's a miracle nobody died, but it wasn't looking good - all I'll say is I've never been happier with my decision to take the specialist perk which heals everyone on the team!!!

However with that out of the way, something about the combination that happened with that attack glitched things out a bit - I had the usual "road-runner" effect of half the squad hovering in the air until they suddenly realised they had fallen... but several of my squad had no animations at all for the rest of the mission... They could still take their turns as normal, but no animations would play; clicking to move them would see them instantly teleport to the destination... firing would incur a massively long pause and then all of a sudden the damage etc. would happen. Very weird :p

Oh and a few minutes later I failed to hack a Sectopod, increasing it's armor and health (great, I thought) it suddenly said "hack successful" at the start of the alien's turn and gave control of it to me anyway!!

Yep I've had the same issue a few times, if any of my soldiers are involved in a collapsing building then they get the animation bug for the rest of the mission, pretty annoying.

Overall even with the problems at present, is the game worth getting now or better to wait for more patches?

ty

Definitely worth getting. Bugs are fairly cosmetic. Game is brilliant. It's as engrossed in a game as I have been in a fair while, great fun.
