X-Com 2 - Announced

Think it is just called toolbox. It also has a squad size option iirc. They also released a perks mod that changes and adds perks. Basically go on to the long war studios page on Steam workshop and it has all of their stuff listed. I thunk they have released 6 so far.

It allows you to configure the options to your liking too, which is great.

Bugs are gone, but performance isn't great even now. Seems very CPU heavy, and needs a better one/higher clock than it warrants. Doesn't often drop below 30-40 though and sits at 60+ a lot of the time, but the slowdowns can be massive.

I would deffo agree with that. Sometimes it slows down enough to make you wonder if it's crashed, other times it's great. Even with a really high spec system, it still seems to struggle (i7 5820k at 4.3 GHz, 32 GB RAM, GTX 1080).

It's a great game though, I love it. Loads of mods available as well, although I'm playing the vanilla version at the moment.

Ahahaha Christopher Odds new season got off to an absolutely awesome start ;)

Oh man, that's Xcom alright!

Jump to about 7:50. First mission, first shots, first enemy group encountered.

I fail to be excited watching someone else play computer games. Guides, fair enough, I get that some folks prefer videos to reading but.. "HEY I KNOW, LETS TUNE IN TO WATCH SOME GUY PLAY A COMPUTER GAME, EXCITING INSTALLMENTS EVERY WEEK" just seems.... very strange.

:)

I'd agree until a friend pointed out that I and a lot of people watch football/rugby/motor racing etc... and even pay a fortune for the privilege.

Game is unplayable. Crashes every 10 minutes. Their forum is full of complaints, and has been for months but they seemingly don't care. Very poor show Firaxis!

Mirror image of XCom1 release. Refused to play the sequel after that horror show.

The amusing (but not amusing) thing is how many feverish fanboys come out of the woodwork to say "There are no bugs - it's you; it's your system; it's your imagination."

Until people started posting YouTube videos of the bugs, and even then it didn't stop some of the die-hard fans denying the existence of the bugs.

Really bizarre I find that people choose to act this way. What is Firaxis but another faceless corporation? Can't understand the devotion some people have to companies.

As espoused by people who never played Microprose's UFO:EU.

"That's Firaxis XCom" alright.

UFO vets will remember that you could take 12 people on your 1st mission, not 4. And that typically you'd be up against 4-5 aliens (for a crash-landed small UFO).

But I get tired repeating all the differences between UFO and Firaxis's XCom. They are not the same, they are wildly different.

Here are some highlights:
UFO: You could have tanks on your 1st mission.
UFO: You could have rocket launchers on your 1st mission.
UFO: You could have proximity mines on your 1st mission.
UFO: You could give your soldiers 10+ grenades each.
UFO: You could shoot at terrain.
UFO: You could shoot an enemy with a unit that didn't spot it yet.

The list goes on.

Long story short, UFO gave the player tools, and by using those tools the player could stack the odds in his favour.

In Firaxis XCom, the Random Number Generator is king. At the beginning of the game you have no tools; no way to stack the odds.

Losing is frustrating in Firaxis XCom because often it's only the dice that make you lose.

Only a total newb would lose their first mission in UFO if they took 12 soldiers, or 8 soldiers and a tank, and 2 rocket launcher troops, 20 proxy mines, 20 grenades...

I played UFO more than most of you I'll bet.

Many people still playing this game?
Have you any updates on the bugs, as I am tempted to purchase to play..

Having liked xcom 1

I still play the game. Latest patches have made the game much more stable, yes you do get occasional crash, but more often than not it is stable.

Plenty of decent mods now available that change the game. I have weapon & armour mods, along with the brilliant Long War series of mods. I have a mod that increases my team to 12, but also I have another that doubles the number of dropship reinforcements.

I'm not denying there is the occasional bug.

But the guy said it crashes every 10 minutes...As I said I've got 200+ hours on steam and I think I would remember if it crashed every 10 minutes! I wouldn't play it if it was in that state.

It crashed 3 times for me, I remember because it does some dump info upload to Firaxis afterwards and Steam still thinks the game is running so it was annoying.

That's not me being a Fanboy, that is my experience with the game.

I'm not singling out anyone here.

But boy, the 2k forums were full of bug deniers :p And when YouTube vids of bugs were posted, they tried to argue they were game mechanics working as intended, not bugs :p It was hilarious and extremely frustrating at the same time. A bit like the game ;)

e: Also mine didn't crash much if at all. The bugs were map bugs, teleporting alien unit bugs, shooting through terrain bugs, line of sight bugs, and probably others I've forgotten.

One of the worst ones that I managed to screenshot was a soldier standing right next to (in the next square from) an alien, telling me he had no line of sight... on certain maps that could happen very predictably.

So yeah, not crash bugs, gameplay bugs.

My main issue with it is the patchy performance. I managed to get the FPS ok on missions or when on ship/geoscape. But all transition animations like mission starts, skyranger briefings, soldiers walking to the screen pre and post missions etc crawl along at about 10fps. It's annoying but tolerable.

XCom2 is certainly holding its value better than XC:EU. That game after six months was like £10-£15, this is still holding out at £20-£25.

I get a bit of slowdown when your dudes jump off chopper thing, and maybe a tiny bit when you blow large chunks out of buildings. Never Fraps'd it but would guess am getting around 60fps 99% of the time. 10+ mods running. 970 and i5

The loading times at the end of missions is painfully long though
That isn't a loading screen, press caps-lock to skip it.

Little known fact it seems.

How do you/did you guys find this?

Just picked this up in the sales and after loving the first I'm not really feeling it with this one. Every mission is just a mad dash and there is so much happening on the map I just find myself being launched into things every two minutes. I just find the game a rush and it's lost its tactical edge and just playing against RNG as I stupidly charge in to beat the timers.

Pretty disappointed!

I think its a fantastic game. Initially timer aspect was somewhat annoying, but got used to it and not so much of a big deal now. Also becomes less of an issue as you get harder hitting weapons. Battle scanners can be useful as can the Rangers cloaking ability in quickly scouting up ahead and also moving your troops into ideal positions.
