X-Com 2 - Announced

I think its a fantastic game. Initially timer aspect was somewhat annoying, but got used to it and not so much of a big deal now. Also becomes less of an issue as you get harder hitting weapons. Battle scanners can be useful as can the Rangers cloaking ability in quickly scouting up ahead and also moving your troops into ideal positions.

Agree with this - I think it's supposed to be this way as well; XCOM aren't meant to be on top of things in this game (at the start at least) and the initial part of the game is supposed to feel tough + rushed...

Also worth remembering that if you persevere and it really still bothers you the mod support in the game is fantastic and with a simple one-click mod you can either make the timers a lot more forgiving or disable them completely (just checkout the Steam workshop)

Personally my main gripe with the timers isn't that they're too strict, it's that they don't allow for partial completion, it's all or nothing - i.e. you've got a mission with 4 units to extract a VIP, and you manage to get 3 of the units + the VIP onto the ship, then the timer runs out before the last guy makes it - that counts as a failed mission!! (Unless they've patched this, it was a while ago I played it)

That doesn't sound right to me. The mission is successful as soon as the VIP is extracted as far as I remember and has always been that way.

You can be in a position where you end up leaving soldiers behind though.

It really is a brilliant game and has a delude of mods in the Steam Workshop. I used the character packs and had units from Aliens, Street Fighter, Predator, Marvel etc.

How do you/did you guys find this?

Just picked this up in the sales and after loving the first I'm not really feeling it with this one. Every mission is just a mad dash and there is so much happening on the map I just find myself being launched into things every two minutes. I just find the game a rush and it's lost its tactical edge and just playing against RNG as I stupidly charge in to beat the timers.

Pretty disappointed!

Xcom 2 lost its colour for me after the first play through. Haven't touched it since February even if i have all dlc.

Found Mordheim City of the damned far superior and more fun than XCom 2

Xcom 2 is being given away as part of humble bundles monty sub! Along with ) yet to be announced games during the month. So I'm going to sub and cancel mainly to get Xcom works out about £9-10ish, great deal

How is this game for a new comer? I dabbled in the first reboot but didn't get too far before something else came along!

What's the Best settings/difficulty for the best new comer experience?

So i just started yesterday and would like to make sure i get the best vanilla experience possible (as few changes to the intended design as poss while eliminating annoyances). i added one Long War mod as it was a favourite feature from x-com1. Got the following mods installed Any recommendations on any others?

- Long War Leader pack (similar to the Officers in Long War, you can train people as leaders and give perks to your squad)
- Stop Wasting My Time (removes some of the animations and delays between clicking an action happening)
- EU Aim Rolls (supposedly fixes hit and crit rolls to work more intuitively as 2 separate dies rather than just 1)
- Gotcha (improves the line of sight indicator to show whether you'll be flanking enemies and whether you'll be close enough to hack objects)
- ShowMeTheSkills (improves the interface for troopers, showing more info in the squad selection menu)
- Free camera rotation (allows rotation and zooming of the camera)

Quiet Bradford (stops Central from moaning on retaliation missions when a civilian is killed)

If you want to get something worthwhile out of the loot drops from killed advent soldiers you can use the following mods
Grimy's loot mod (adds lock boxes to loot drops from killed advent soldiers which requires researching (it also requires a command to be entered into the console to be able to research the lock boxes) to unlock and can come up with some tasty hardware, but you won't get more advanced hardware until later on in the game)
Mod everything (required to use Grimy's lot mod, but also allows mods to be added to pistols and armour)
Mod option (again is required to use Grimy's loot mod and it just adds an extra item in the options menu for mods which in the case of Grimy's loot mod allows the adjustment of the RNG for loot drops and what you get)

I pretty much said "shut up and take my money again" to humble to get this for £10 and it has been a lot of fun with a few mods added (except I've got to find out how to stop mod soldier classes from interfering with pre-set classes from character pool characters) although the fun has come core from setting off overwatch ambushes from both starting shot and enemy solder drops (and it's a lot of fun when a whole squad gets wiped out).

My current playthrough is just for fun as I'm working on building up the character pool (which is going to take a bit of time, and considering I've only scratched the surface (even though I've already done my first Avenger defence) I should have a sizeable character pool by the tile I hit the final mission).

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to give it a go without the loot mods for now. Only had time to do the tutorial last night so it's all exciting :D
Performance is not great tbh. a little bit juddery in some scenes, may have to lower graphics to high.
Any tips for improving performance?

Yeesh what has happened since March?
I played through the game back then no issues, had this thread pop up and decided to do another play through.

One re-install later and every 10 minutes or so it crashes. No idea why :-/

Long War Laser Pack and Long War Perk Pack if you're playing through again. Lasers are a much needed additional weapon layer, and the perk pack lets you fiddle with a lot of the variables in game.
