X-Factor 2012

Cowell obviously feels that it needed some controversy to bring the ratings up because that was such an obvious fix.

That was a setup surely!
After being prompted numerous times about who he wanted to send home, he said he wanted to save Carolynne twice, then decided deadlock.

Louis Walsh: "I'm choosing to save Carolynne." Dermot: "What was that Louis?" Louis: "I said I want to take it to deadlock."

On a fellow human level (if I try really hard) I actually feel a wee bit sorry for Rylan, because we all know he would never be allowed to win, yet they are manipulating and using him to drum up a ton of controversy and he is fast becoming a hate figure for the whole nation, and can't be doing the public gay relations image any good with all this... you just know that many simple minds are going to associate all this pantomine with his sexuality.

I'm sure he will get some TV work out of it, but it's sure as hell going to be a rough 6 months following the show.

EDIT - Watching Xtra Factor and Rylan just had another pre-prepared "fun movie clip" with him walking around naked in the Xfactor housea and bringing the other contestants tea, it's clear he was meant to go through.

Strange thing that Dermot never accepted "i want to save Caroline" as he didnt say who he wanted to send home, but he didnt seem to need a name when louis said about sending it to deadlock

So what actually happened? All I've hard is Louis is a doodar on Facebook :p.

Dermot should have taken Louis first answer!

Basically Rylan (the super camp guy) and Carolynne (the over 30's country singer) were in the bottom 2 and did a sing off.

Rylan was shockingly awful
Carolynne sang note perfect pretty much.

Nicole and Gary both voted to save their own act.
Tulisa voted to send Rylan home.
Louis doddered about for ages and ages with Dermot telling him to give him a name NOW!! cos they're running out of time (so why not cut out some of the earlier cack so you don't have this time issue every week?).

Louis then said he wanted to save Carolynne. She was over the moon. Then Dermot asked him to confirm who he wanted to send home and he changed his mind and said he wanted it to go to deadlock. Despite Dermot apparently saying they were hugely out of time, he then doddered for ages with 'the person going home is...............................' and names Carolynne.
Rylan then cried a lot, Gary walked off and the nation was outraged.

Well, time to break cover for this season and say that it's nice to see the X-Factor circus has lost none of its contrived drama. Love it or hate it, you can't deny the fact they can create talking points.

At risk of jumping on a clear favourite and risking a repeat of last year's Janet effect, I'll be disappointed if Ella doesn't win. Unlike Janet, who had a much more fragile voice and style (which is what appealed to me as being different) Ella could perform the back of a Weetabix packet and make it sound compelling. The problem for the show will be finding some songs she can't sing well to give the others a chance and make it seem like a competition.

I quite like the shy guy with the squeaky voice, but he's not a natural performer. He could come out of his shell, but he probably needs taking under someone's wing for a few years, a bit like Janet.

The rest... background noise. I look forward to fast forwarding through most of their performances. And eating humble pie when my expectations meet reality.

Oh, and I'm already kicking myself for feeling a tiny bit sorry for Rylan. He's been cast as this year's Johnny, but I'm not sure we're ready for another one, so soon. They've got the talented but quirky Spraggan for that slot this year. She could go a long way as long as they fire whoever did her makeup this weekend and let her sing her own stuff.

Arrghhh I can't believe Chrstopher got the wildcard, he is the most pathetic cringeworth **** I have seen in ages, but for very different reasons than the mincer. He is the biggest wet blanket i've ever seen on the show.

Now, THIS, we can agree on.
In fact, I'm shocked that you are saying this. I was having a go earlier in this thread about the crying nonsense (which you defended) and now you are coming out with what I am saying....what's going on?

Indeed. This is light entertainment and you mustn't take any of this too seriously. You have your good singers. You have the bad singer. Then you have the background singers who will never be heard from ever again.

I like Rylan as he is the only showman and his voice is clearly terrible. But he is the only person whose name I know. On C5 news, they showed a clip of XFactor and you guessed it, it was Rylan who was being shown.

This is light entertainment, which gets some of the highest ratings of any show on TV. Take it seriously and you will realise that this is dribble. But treat is as light entertainment and you will appreciate just how good it is at delivering to its target audience.
