X-Wing

So tempted by this! Are there any rules currently for privateer sort of armies? I love the look of having Slave 1 in the game, but would be annoying to have to be forced to have legions of TIEs next to it...

I know this post is almost 2 months old now, but your wish is FFG's command. They've released a new Scum & Villainy faction, you can buy an expansion pack called "Most Wanted" which contains 3 ships, and a bunch of cards for the new faction including conversions for the Slave I and other ships to be part of the S&V faction. Details here:

I've heard people saying that this now opens the game up to being 3-player, but I haven't seen any official word on this. Would be awesome if true though!

Edit: Ahh just saw I've been slightly pipped to the post with this news in post above, but some good info dished out anyway! :)

Is it me, or do the Star Wars minitures look much better than the Star Trek ones?

I would get the Star Trek ones, but they just look so poor. Rather they charged a bit more and produced something better. The game looks decent, but I think the lack of quality would bother me and I would not enjoy it.

It's not just you. The Star Trek ones are made by a different manufacturer and they aren't anywhere near as good.

That's a shame as I know people who prefer Star Trek: Attack Wing to X-Wing.

Hi guys. I bought the core game a year or so back but never got round to playing it. It's now time to crack it open!

I've read a bunch of posts on forums suggesting two core packs is the way to go - is that still advisable given all the stuff that's been released since? I'm quite taken with the Rebel and Imperial Aces packs and was wondering if adding them to the core game would work?

You don't have to, but it is quite handy. The models are cheaper to buy this way (by a few pounds), then you get a free dice pack, and both players can have their own movement/range templates. Spare cards and tokens are also free.

However there are pilots (and I think some upgrades) only available in the standalone TIE and XWing packs, so you may want them as well (for a total of 3 XWings and 5 TIE fighters).

I'd only get a second starter set if you're going to be playing the game regularly. Personally, I like having a force of mostly X-Wings and TIE Fights for thematic reasons. The extra dice and movement rules are definitely useful though.

The beauty of X Wing is that you can use any combination of Rebel ships in a Rebel fleet, so if you wanted to pick up the Rebel Aces set, rather than a B Wing and an A Wing set individually, then you could easily run them alongside your X Wing from the Core set.

However, be aware that the "Aces" sets have different pilots in them than the "expansion" blisters. Might be worth asking a friend who has multiples of the special characters to see if you can steal his spares.

Related, but not quite X-Wing I finally managed to play the full version of DnD attack wing last week. Quite a nice game the fact that the Dragons have rear attacks can change tactics quite a bit.

I now have Star Wars Armada! Not had time to play it yet though...

Very expensive compared to the X wing starter set but you do get more components. Also, who knew Howlrunner was female?
