Is there any point in buying a £400+ card when dx10 cards will be out next year. I was hoping that the x1900xt would last me a 2-3 years, but will it still play dx10 games. So ive got some options:
Buy the x1900xt and make it last for about 2-3 years and put up with not playing dx10 games
Buy the x1900xl and change the card when the first or second lot of dx10 cards come out.
So what should i do??
Does dx9 cards still work with dx10 games, cause i cant rember having a dx7 card playing dx8 games

You will still get nice frame rates and no problems actually playing the games. If you wait for the price drops after the 1900 release, the resale value for the 1800 should be OK for awhile. 2-3 years is a looong time for graphics cards.
For pure FPS yes... but if you are CPU limited and have a good GFX card you should be able to get large amounts of AA/AF for "free".fornowagain said:At 1280x1024 its more about the cpu than the gpu. Well maybe not more, but at least worth thinking about. The X1800XT is a stonking card especially if (when) it hits sub £300.

Yeah, but I'm thinking more about "playability". I hate the slide shows that these games can become, in fact, anything that distracts from the experience. It's the only real reason I upgrade apart from the ubiquitous willy waving. There's a thought, do you think the games designers are in cahoots with the manufacturers?Goksly said:For pure FPS yes... but if you are CPU limited and have a good GFX card you should be able to get large amounts of AA/AF for "free".

that is why am really debating getting x1900, i could go for 1800 and an opteron.. or maybe dual core... im not going further than 1280x1024

I don't think it supposed to be faster, just cheaper. The XTX should have the edge. I posted a link earlier to a guy with both cards and he says there is nothing between the two.chaparral said:I hope this new ati xt1900 card can give more then 3fps then the 7800gtx 512mb in fear.
Course you will, so will I, what can you do? Buy a console, god forbid.bakes0310 said:i love this graphics card race its fostering funny, i expect when i see the first dx10 game that i want when its out ill change my card again even if it hasnt been 2 years.
