X3:Terran Conflict has arrived

Shipyards
Shipbuilding directly
Reverse engineering

How is this all possible?
I can't seem to find shipyards for sale anywhere, not that I have the money for such endeavours yet anyway

shipyards can't be bought as theres no need for them.

You gain the ability to build your own ships upon completion of a series of plot's in a specific order, some of which are massive, & take substantial time ( think weeks of game time ) & resources to complete.

Once the requisite plots are completed you gain access to your own home sector ( which you choose ) & you build your own PHQ ( personal HQ ). to reverse engineer a ship you just dock it at your PHQ & hit RE, the more unique a ship is, like the Vidar for example, the longer it takes to RE & get the blueprints for it so you can start building your own.

You will also find that once you have your own PHQ, you will be offered blueprints for sale by all manner of NPC's on your travels. note shipbuilding takes time & resources, it's not like an NPC shipyard, you don't place an order & get a ship instantly, the bigger the ship class, the longer it takes to build & the more raw materials are needed to complete the job. eg, M2's take hours of game time to complete, where as M3's are pretty damn quick by comparison.

On the subject of shipbuilding resources, you need to keep you PHQ stocked with the following raw materials to be able to build your own ships:

Energy Cells
Teladianium
Cloth Rimes
Rastar Oil
Ore
Silicon Wafers
Crystals
Quantum Tubes
Microchips
Computer Components
Credits

Also note, every ship in the game except for the Xperimental Shuttle can be RE'd to gain the blueprints, the Xperimental Shuttle is the only exception to the rule & is truly unique, so never sell or lose it as one is all you ever get.

click me for minimum requirements & start sectors for various plots

So far I've managed to build a few stations and a complex that's creating a lot of extra energy cells, is it possible to set a freighter to simply pick up the extra energy cells at the complex and bring it to another one of my owned stations. At the moment my freighter is simply going to other sectors to buy energy, why buy it when I could just get it for free?:D

yup it is.

iirc:

command console -> Trade -> Start external commodity logistics -> Way points -> Add station -> Load ( insert commodity you want your ship to load ) -> Add station -> Unload

Note there are a bunch of other options to explore like setting jump, jump fuel, report enemy etc, so take your time to set it up correctly, also, your pilot will start out as an apprentice, & won't use jump drive till he/she hits a certain rank which escapes me at the moment.

I've just started this again yesterday, having only played it a little bit last year (I played Reunion, and found the change in controls a bit jarring, so I stopped, then just never went back to it), and now that I'm starting fresh, I'm having real fun with it.

Started with the initial Terran build, and just got to 200k, mostly from escort, patrol and criminal killing missions (and selling the looted missiles from them), with some more tied up in a pair of partially kitted out captured Yaki Fujin Raiders and a captured Dolphin, which a pirate was using to transport microchips (4 units) and spaceweed (92 units). He dropped the lot as soon as I took down his shields and then bailed out when I got his hull to about a third, so not only a free ship, but a boatload of free stuff to sell :D

Once I get the Dolphin repaired and flog its current stash, I'm gonna start setting it up as a sector trader, but right now I don't know what to do with the Fujins. Each is worth about 62k, so I don't know if I should just sell them and use the cash to upgrade the Dolphin, or if I should finish kitting them out (they need shields, and their engines, turning and acceleration aren't spectacular at the moment) and use them as escorts for the freighter

Maybe I'm blind but I don't seem to see anything mentioning "external commodity logistics" under the trade button?:(

I believe it's possible to do this without any needing the bonus pack.

Manual trade command -> Buy Ware -> Sell Ware -> Number of runs

It's best to build self-sufficient complexes to keep the number of trade ships to a minimum. In addition, station traders are easily destroyed by pirates and will happily do suicide runs through xenon space unlike universal traders.

going to play x3 (terran conflict) for the first time any must have mods I should know about?

I wouldn't touch any of the major mods until you are able to play the standard game well. Same goes for some of the more complicated scripts(excluding the bonus pack). These will only make the game more of a pain to learn. But any graphical mods eg the draw distance, trail packs or sector backgrounds will be fine. What ever you think needs to be changed improved.

Once you have played the game fore a while you will know what scripts/mods you would want be it more ships or trade/fighting commands or sector take over and race defence scripts.
