X4 Foundations

One of those games that can be played in so many different ways. I still prefer having a small industry setup and then just doing all my own leg work for quest stuff.
One day I'll even do it all properly and take over the whole galaxy but it's so much damn fun have an OP ship killing the 'bad' guys. 'Bad guys' count as anyone I fancy killing and get away with, without a faction hit.

Just bought this yesterday, in the past I had some fun with X3 but never got too deep into it.

Does this have similar mechanics, gonna try it on the deck.

It will be god awful on the deck, even if it was 'ok' early on it's going to slow to a crawl before long so you wouldn't really be able to build stations etc. It is similar to the others yes but more customisation with station building.

I have been absolutely pulled back in and as a result picked up the rest of the DLC. The great thing is that since I’m now playing with newer hardware, I can load my original save back up that whilst on older hardware had become a stutter fest, it runs perfectly on my current system (I believe there have also been some performance patches too). Even in sectors that have hundreds of factories, I’m still holding decent fps. Saves me starting from scratch again!

I accidentally started the crisis research, but it seems that after a couple of attacks you can still pay to prevent the rest of it, so I’ve made a save just before giving me the option.

Its definitly worth the 4 quid id say 25 quid with all the dlcs is definitly a steal the devs are still actively coming out with updates i believe the ai is being improved early next year

Agreed, a great deal either way. Loads of content with the base game, it easily kept me going for a long time before any DLC came out. The DLC is just nice to have.

I'm tempted to pick the base version up seeing as how it's only £4 on Steam.
Bit bummed that I got X4 on steam then to find out that loaded is doing the X4 Discovery Pack (base game plus timelines DLC) for £7.49 when the DLC alone is at least £8. As I understand it Timelines is accessible as a separate menu option and is a series of missions that help you get used to the core game mechanics so is potentially worthwhile for new players.

Reading the reviews most people say it actually isn’t that helpful for new players. Terran conflict is a pretty easy way to get into the game (not that I’ve finished it yet).

Amazingly these stations don’t bog the game down anymore.

My go to ship construction factory (think I have about 10 of these). Lots more ship fabs underneath.

And mega ware complexes (about 10 more of these). I effectively found a loophole on this one when I realised you could copy a sequence of modules and add them to the end of the build plot, effectively doubling the allowed plot size. Don’t think you can do that anymore?

Have just started the Terran plot, enjoying it so far. Just a little more rep to get an Asgard.

I've still not managed to get into this game, but considering the massive changes they are making I'm just going to wait for that. I feel like I'm always waiting for the next patch

To be fair they’ve made loads of changes. There are plenty of game starts to ease you into it now. Although the best parts of the game are probably the early grind and endgame. I unlocked the Terran blueprints and figured I’d buy them all in one go, what’s a billion credits at this point :p

It's more the horror stories that I read about the AI. To be honest, it's the same thing as Stellaris. Every few patches are fundamentally change how the game is played so I'm like well there's no point playing it at the moment.

Haven’t played this for ages, but figured I’d pick up the Hyperion pack to have a bit of a quicker start. It’s all come back to me pretty quickly. Liking the new updates and visuals. The 5090 means it’s the first time I’ve had - consistent 100fps plus with all the settings turned up. Just milling about in the game so far.

Tried it again v recently and just couldn't get back into it. Still looks absolutely amazing though. I feel like a couple of weeks in a hotel bar with great WiFi, warm weather and sea views could be the key to unlocking enough downtime to enjoy it and switch off from the day-to-day....

If anyone struggles to run this, it plays like a dream at ultra settings on GeforceNow in 1440p/4k.
