Can this be trasnfered onto the rampage black easily as I took the plunge and pre ordered it with a 4930k and avexir core blue 2400mhz 16gb quad kit (also will this ram be fine for that board as there is no memory compatibility list up?)

Hey 8 pack im thinking of getting a rampage 4 or rampage 4 extreme. Im going to use a custom water setup of the finest components. Can you tell me what is the best ram to go for 2133 or 2400? Will i able to use the full speed of this ram as well as a maximum oc on the cpu? A bit like the x58 architecture was?
Thanks man.

With 4930K and RIVE you can use any of those speed RAM modules no problem. 16gb will not limit CPU over clock at all with four sticks. Go for C9 2133, C10 2400 or if you can find C10 2666mhz.

I tried to overclock the 4820K tonight.

Given that I have the MSI X79 GD45 Plus, some settings aren't the same.
So I gave a try by changing two things.

a) Raised the voltage from stock 1.35 to 1.36. (EDIT - It gets 10 runs on IBT fine at 1.35)
b) Set my ram to 2400.
c) raised the PLL to 1.88 (hope didn't so any mistake here)

So it went straight to 4800 without issue. However 4900 fails on the IBT even if I raise the voltage to 1.375v.

Temps are bit worrying, given that while running the IBT cores 0 & 3 raised at 72C, while 1 & 2 stayed at 63C. Might have to reapply the paste. Also using the H100 with 4 Enermax Magma fan as full speed in push pull config.

I believe can get more out of the 4820K. I haven't fiddle with anything else though, so system might not be running at optimal settings.
(at least made sure the DRAMM modules are all on four black slot :o)

Any thoughts and ideas welcome.

You look to be on the right lines. Your temps are fine 70 odd is ok man!! Voltages are safe enough. Maybe try 125 strap this appears more stable for me on ASUS boards. must admit not really tried MSI with Ivy E.

Thank you very much for the advice. :)

Managed to drop the temps by reapplying the paste, and got it back to ~63C on all of them. It is shame that the IBT is crashing on the 5th or 6th run at 4.9 & 5Ghz :(

I will post updated when I switch to 125 strap. :)

8Pack, how much voltage is the maximum safe I can put on a 4820K for 24/7 operation?

Cheers :)

EDIT I am asking because by going for manual overclock (not via OC Genie as before), managed to hit stable 4952Mhz @ 1.352v.
Tried to go for 125*40 (5Ghz) and 1.37v, however while the system boots, windows crash. Inside BIOS says the power voltage is 1.368 at 5Ghz.
Hope you understand my anxiety since I am "that close" to pass the 5Ghz barrier, and I do not know how :(

Btw thanks for letting me know about the 1.25 strap. Helped a lot to push the CPU on manual overclock. Not via the OC Genie & Command Centre like before.
Also anyone who reads here while having the MSI X79 GD45/65 Plus. You need to buy 2400+ memory (OC has an amazing offer for even 8GB quad channel), and set it to 1600, if you want to get some stable overclock with high bust. After all at 126 atm the memory is running at 2032 already. (going to try raise the bus to 128 when I manage to get the correct voltage on the CPU post 5Ghz)

1.4v 24/7 max voltage.

1.3 SA is high though for 24/7 1.25 would by my max on air for sure.

Cheers. :)

I put it to 1.4v and got 5000. Thanks :D

SA on the other hand, lowering it to 1.25, gave me crashes on some games even at 4800. Found it's spot at 1.28 though. At least I use H100i with 4 Magma fans to cool the radiator, while two big 140s that push air over the motherboard & graphic cards.

:)

Thank you 8Pack :D

8-Pack, any ideas when you'll be able to post an Ivybridge-E run down? I'm hitting a wall at 4.8 without using ridiculous Vcore and wouldn't mind trying to break 5Ghz on my 4960.

Want to try using 1.25 strap, guessing that's going to be the only way.
