this was more down to me ballsing up my radlinker settings as i discovered later that night when i got into Battlefield 2... jagged edge city... the card can run the games without jagged edges and in true time honoured ATI tradition outperforms its Nvidia equivelant most of the time when AA and AF are used.

Turn out that TOCA RD2 turns off AA, the card runs farcry superbly

I've got my GTO² running at 530/630 so far and it hasn't yet broken 62ºC with the fan running at 55% speed. How far should I be able to actually go with this card?

Update: Just been experimenting and the core ceiling seems to be ~540 for me before artifacts start appearing, I'm going to leave it on 530.

Just shows the difference in these cards, my core went to 552 but the memory stopped at 595.

drop the memory then try upping the core again, you may find its the memory artifacting :) its better to be able to get as much as possible out of your core speed as this gives the greater performance boost. i dropped my memory down from 600 to 580 and the core went up to 560 without any troubles :)

so i was at GPU535 and MEM605 with a 3dmark score of 5850 and now im at GPU560 / MEM580 with a 3dmark score of 6250 :)

one thing ive noticed about these bios mods. i installed the bios mod corrently on mine and it showed up in ati tool as 12 pipes... i then installed the catalyst drivers to find it said i now havew 16 pipelines..

ive upgraded the heatsink and fan to the zalman fatal1ty vf700.

using the 3d-detection in ATI to enable my clock when i boot up a game...awesome program.

Core at 540 and the memory at 600.

57 load 32 idle and the ram now sits at 31'c don't know what the ram is on load as ive not checked.

going to see how far i can push the memory tonight.

My core won't let me go over 535mHz or so without crashing in ATi Tray Tools williamw11 so, from my point of view anyway, that is the limit for my card. I even tried what locutus12 recommended, throttling back the memory to 590mHz, and it still does it.

I was able to use the ATi Tray Tools benchmark on that before it crashed, though, and the results were actually lower than when I use 530mHz core and 630mHz memory.

Maybe I should get myself one of those then.

Looking at your post a few back you got 3DMark05: 6347 with 530/630, which is a fantastic overclock, anyone should be happy to hit that mate :) A VF700 will set you back £20+, putting the card up to £170+ overall... it becomes less of an impressive bargain if you do that.

the stock cooler on the GTO 2 is used on the X850XTPE cards so really you shouldnt need a new cooler, what you could do is remove the cooler, clean off the generic cooling grease and apply some arctic silver 5, better yet if you know how you could lap the areas of the heatsink that come into contact with the memory as these are relatively unfinished areas.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm extremely happy with the results I've got. I'm just one of those people who constantly thinks "wouldn't it be nice if I could get a few mHz more." :D

yeah i agree with locutus there. i managed 6,452 @ 528/606, but i cant push it much further than that. buying another cooler would decrease the VFM quite honestly.

its allowed me to push my core even further. I think it will be futureproof for the x1800 cards at least. it is also absolutely noiseless. and the cooling performance speaks for itself...

:)

quick update...now stable at 540 core 630 memory... pretty impressed with this little beauty. i whacked it up to 645 but got slight artifacts in 3dmark05. so i think 630 is a nice place to settle for.

Well Initial City Link didn't deliver my new hard drive yesterday, so I'm sat here with everything else and can't build my system as planned this weekend  Desperate to get playing with this GTO2!

the gto2 cooler is a single slot thing where as the xtpe has a 2 slot cooler which is much better.

Hi all!
This is my first (second now after moving..;)) post here.. Wohoo! :D
Well.. down to business..:
After reading about the GTO2 cards for a while, I decided to get one.. Unfortunatly, by the time I got to ordering one, the card was sold out here in Norway.. :(
Of course I was very disappointed, but didn't give up..!
After searching the net, I came across another card with the same specs..(1.6 ns mem, and R480 core) I'm talking about the HIS Radeon X800 GTO IceQ II Turbo..
What du you think guys (and gals..?) ? Could this also be a candidate for modification with the right bios..?
Hopefully this is a possibility, as I've already ordered one... In any case, it's a very good overclocker!

my mistake, its the same cooler as on the X850Pro cards,
"It's immediately clear that the X800 GTO² 256MB card conforms with the PCB design and general layout of ATI's high-end cards. The cooler is identical to that found on a reference Radeon X850 Pro." - Hex**.net

it still begs the question of why youd bring that up, i really do dislike people that try to be a smart alleck. as ive said before, buying a new cooler for this card defeats the object. none of you should be getting temps above 80oC unless your really straining the card. im at 55oC under load, at 540 580 with 6200 3d05 marks. this should be more than enough for anyone with this card. adding coolers to it destroys the value for money aspect, you may as well of got a 7800GT.

if you cant find a sapphire GTO2 then the only other GTO maker that might unlock is the Connect 3d GTO. no one but sapphire makes the GTO 2 despite the label of "HIS Radeon X800 GTO IceQ II Turbo"
