Xbox 360 Keyboard and Mouse..?

Is it cheating to play driving games with a wheel?

No as Forza 2's online leaderboard displays, pads are as fast as a wheel (in fact more often than not the pad players have a faster time than the wheel players). I assume Forza 3's leaderboard would show the same but i haven't had a chance to look.

CBA, i'm going to assume it would be the hypocritical 'no' I was expecting.

Sorry to ruin your expectations.

[EDIT] Oh and before someone brings up fighting sticks (which are arguably better) certain games or characters play better with a pad over a stick. I still play better with a pad in street fighter 4 despite using a stick for about 6 months now. Afaik using a stick in Tekken when a pad is available is considered a bit... strange. But even if the fact that sticks are arguably better than a pad is pushed i would argue that the difference is far, far smaller than the difference between a pad and a mouse and keyboard for shooters. I'd also point out that fighting games are designed for sticks on all platforms and officially supported peripherals are freely available on the market and are in fact encouraged by developers. These keyboard and mouse adapters on the other hand are not.

To put it short, a mouse and keyboard boasts a huge advantage over pads in shooters, much greater than any other peripheral has over a pad in any genre.

Sit a top class street fighter player down with a pad and he'll still beat seven shades out of everyone, give a shooter player a pad against other K&M players and he won't fare well at all.

What if the next generation microsoft console came with a pad AND a mouse and a keyboard and the user had the option (like they do on the pc) to use the correct tool for the job, so you could use the pad for football and mouse and keyboard for first person games?
If everyone had the same choice and all the equipment was readily available to them, would that be ok?
I mean it'll never happen, they're always trying to simplify everything on the consoles, dumbing down to reach a wider demographic, everything looks like it was made by fisher price as it is, the last thing they'd want to do is scare off the casual gamer with 100 plus buttons. Nintendo have proven how lucrative the non-gamer market is, I expect sony and microsoft will want a piece of that action.
Say if they came with a mouse and sort of mini gaming keyboard, would you use it?

The basic idea of a console though is to sit around in front of your tv, on a sofa, in your front room.

That's not possibile really, if you have a keyboard and mouse.

KB+M = PC
Pad = Console.

It should stay that way too.

If it came with a mouse and keyboard i probably wouldn't use it; if i want to play shooters competitively i go to my PC. I feel i should add though that the PS3 DOES support mouse and keyboard in games if developers choose to include it. Epic did for Unreal Tournament 3 and it bombed, the online community was fractured as some would use KB+Mouse, others used pads and stuck to their own servers. The whole point of a console for myself and many others is to slouch on a comfy sofa with a pad and enjoy, not sit at a table so i've got somewhere to put the controller.

As for the fisher price comment, obvious troll is obvious.

I can't see Microsoft ever officially supporting a M+K device for 360, would split the community in two and really screw up online play.

I'm not trying to get a rise out of you, I'm just stating my opinion. You're telling me that this doesn't remind you of a fisher price toy?

Big, chunky, colourful buttons, won't break when you drop it or smudge peanut butter around the start button :D
Just because the majority of people in this thread disagree with something I say, doesn't mean that I'm just saying it for effect. I'm not a troll. This is genuinely what I think and I've every right to say it. Other people seem happy to take my comments on board and respond to them thoughtfully without calling me a troll, why can't you?

Firstly, please note how i gave you a very good response to the constructive segment of your post, and called you a troll to your non-constructive part. I don't feel it looks like a fisher price toy no. Or rather, it reminds me of a fisher price toy about as much as a glowing mouse or a 'gaming headset' as after all all of these are ultimately designed as toys for teenagers/adults.

But i digress, what has the appearance of gaming peripherals got to do with a keyboard and mouse adapter?

No, you are reminding me of a certain mythical creature though.

Hehe, I'll give you that one :D

I'm just saying, I imagine they look like that to make them more accessible and user-friendly. If the xbox shipped with a keyboard, the none gamer would probably take one look at it, think "Oh my, that looks complicated. Do all those buttons do something?" and buy a wii instead.

Do you think most people don't know how to use a keyboard then? If anything a gamepad is far more complicated. My mother can quite happily use a mouse and keyboard yet give her a gamepad and she looks quite confused.

A console will never ever ship with a keyboard as its primary controller. How on earth would you use it in the lounge?

As much as i used to enjoy playing games primarilly on PC, i couldn't stand using keyboard and mouse for all games anymore, I'm just used to gaming on 360 now and enjoy it far more. Recently played Dragon Age on PC and thouroughly enjoyed it but I think these days I'm far more of a couch gamer, prefer games to be a method of relaxing.

I also think that separate devices for work (PC) and play (Xbox) certainly helps me concentrate more! :P

As for the fisher-price comments, if it gets more people into gaming that can only be a good for the industry and for gamers, it's a damn fine pad.

Never said it wasn't, it's a great pad, I have one hooked up to my pc right now :D Making gaming more accessible isn't a bad thing per se, no, never said it was, you have pc for the gamers, the hobbyists, xbox/ps3 for the casual gamers and things like wii and ds for the non-gamers. Something for everyone.

Auto-aim isn't true auto-aim, and it's only really in single player. Just means that when aiming with a non-sight gun, it locks to a target if you're close enough. Besides, what's wrong with using controllers on pc, you said it yourself, they are worse ;)

Not true. if you run past a player who has put their controller down in cod/halo they turn 45 degrees automatically!

Try killing someone on your team in halo and see how much harder it is without the large amounts of auto aim.

TBH the MS steering wheel looks like it came from the Early Learning Centre...

You know what I mean, people who just want to press the power button and play something simple, no messing about, casually sitting back on a sofa.
I don't mean casual gamers as in "casual games" like peggle and stuff.
