Xbox 360 Slim?

My point is my guess was not far wrong on 2" inches for the 360. Its 2.5-2.6" in the thinnest part, so i was pretty close to be fair. I should have said in my OP that i was talking about the thinnest part though.

What thinnest part? There is no 'thinnest part' on a 360.

Yes there is. The 360 isn't a rectangle. It dips slightly in the middle.

Look I don't want to argue with anyone. Let's just leave it. My guess was off and that's that. Let's not ruin a good thread here!

Wow, looking forward to a 360 slim. Until then this USB update sounds good as I am pushed for space on my 20gb premium. I have to install games as my disk drive sounds like a vacuum cleaner.

The internal hard drive sounds very probable for the Slim. The new USB update must be preparing people for a cheap way to transfer saves and DLC if they buy a new Slim.

I don't have anything against the 360 per se, but I wouldn't own one. Been there, done that, and I just prefer the PS3.

Not sure about a slim 360 though, doesn't it already run quite hot and noisy? And what about reliability? I'm not debunking it, just a bit skeptical.

You know what a die shrink is and what it involves yeah?

Anything pre-Jasper did indeed kick out quite a lot of heat. Jasper revisions (65nm CPU and 65nm GPU) don't though - the heatsinks aren't hot even after gaming sessions. Most of the noise still comes from the DVD drive but MS could still use better fans.

With Valhalla's unified CPU/GPU and a process shrink to 45nm the heat dissipation will obviously be even lower, hence why a 'slim' is possible.

Yeah, I also know enough about the 360 to know the reliability is/was atrocious.

I wasn't actually aware of another process shrink, before you jump further down my throat Mr. Kre. :)

I have an elite which I bought in october 2008.
When I install games to the HDD then it is pretty quiet. I have fallen asleep with it on before unlike my launch console which sounded like my mums hoover.

could this be manufactured to completely remove the rrod problem?

Im only asking as i dont know if its a flaw in the fundemental design in the electronics/circuitry or just a build quality/heat issue

On the upside if it still persists you could fit more slims in the average oven to fix meaning MS turn around time should improve significantly ;)

I am hoping this is true and that its black as there is a few 360 games ive not had since selling my last one

Everybody is saying 'OMG this will stop the RROD', but the Jasper has already pretty much done that. The failure rate of the Jasper is reported to be less than 4%, and of that 4% most faults are with the DVD drive.

This is simply about making the 360 cheaper to produce. I'm not surprised at all, in fact last year I predicted this in a thread about Natal, I said something along the lines of 'Natal will be released along with a new, cheaper cooler running 360, maybe a 360 slim' ;)

Makes sense for MS to do this, a kind of soft relaunch along with Natal and perhaps another price drop :)

I hope this brings about wholesale changes to hackers and some bans to boot.

If I do decide to get one, how does DLC get onto a new machine? The only DLC I have is TLAD & Ballad of Gay Tony as well as Forza 3 DLC.
