Ah cjs is one place I would touch with a barge pole.

Certainly the less reputable of the grey key sellers, accused me.of theft at one point too haha
 
Was meaning to get round to resubscribing. Looks like they might have ended it early.

Might just have to do a month now and again instead. Don't tend to have time to play much in the summer anyway.
 
Crumbs. Switched my Xbox on after a period of inactivity and GPU has expired. I think I might have to just buy games instead. I usually play one or two over the year.

Where do people buy physical games nowadays? Im happy with 2nd hand.

What is the best method to use now the change has happened?

The new system is a mess MS really needs to learn to keep it simple & they wonder why they are failing on so many fronts.

Pay for a month when there is a game you want to play.

Consider it a monthly rental and return fee is how I would look at it. Then occasionally if there is a big game then buy that single one as a one off.

I have children who want to use it so needs to be a constant thing.

The solution you mention does sound like for most people best one
 
My gamepass sub is about to run out, I currently have the ultimate version allowing my son to use it on his xbox and me on my laptop. I originally did the conversion trick about 3 years ago... does this still work? If not whats the cheapest way to renew for a year?

In the same boat, let it lapse and currently paying £12.99 a month.

Edit - doing my usual scouting on HotUKDeals and came across this....

I just purchased 3 x 12 month CORE INDIA (total £62.66, another online retailer) and 1 x month ULTIMATE UK (£8.49, CDKeys) which translates into 24 months of ULTIMATE, so just under £3 per month.

Edit - supposedly it became more restrictive on stacking (consoles) this month, though PC still looks fine now I think.

Edit - for PC at least, looks like you can still get 2 years for about £60-65. I need to wait for my current GPU to expire though in a couple of weeks before doing the conversion below:

Confirming this works as of Sept 4 2024. I'm in the US if that matters.
Followed the steps in the link:

  • Starting from no active GamePass subscription. Mine expired yesterday.
  • Purchased 3 Years of Core, location India, from cheap site I'm not supposed to mention according to the pinned comment (it starts with a vowel not in my username ;) ). Used PayPal, didn't have issues.
  • Started 24hr free trial of CyberGhost VPN.
  • Set VPN to India and turned it on.
  • Redeemed codes on redeem dot Microsoft dot com.
  • Checked my subscription from my account page and confirmed I had 3 years of Core activated.
  • Switched off VPN.
  • Followed "Upgrade to Ultimate" promotion link at the top of my account page.
  • Took me to Xbox Store, where it gave me an offer of a 14-day Ultimate trial for $1.
  • The pop-up purchase window confirmed it would convert my 3 years of Core to 2 years of Ultimate, indicating a new expiration date.
  • Completed the Ultimate purchase.
  • My account page now shows an Ultimate subscription expiring 2 years and 14 days from now.

You missed the last good conversion (2 years) by about 2 and a half weeks. Right now it's just renew monthly.

Not any more, it's 2:1 for Core > Ultimate. So 3 yrs Core = 18 months Ultimate

to quote xbox site -

"When you upgrade to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, we’ll convert any prepaid time you have on Xbox Game Pass or EA Play subscriptions and apply it toward Xbox Game Pass Ultimate at the current conversion ratio, up to a maximum of 36 months.
  • Xbox Game Pass Core conversion ratio: Any remaining time will convert to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate time at a ratio of 2:1 and be rounded up to the next full day. For example, 90 days remaining of Xbox Game Pass Core will convert to 45 days of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate time.
  • PC Game Pass conversion ratio: Any remaining time will convert to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate time at a ratio of 3:2 and be rounded up to the next full day. For example, 90 days remaining of PC Game Pass will convert to 60 days of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate time.
  • Xbox Game Pass Standard and Game Pass for Console conversion ratio: Any remaining time will convert to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate time at a ratio of 4:3 and be rounded up to the next full day. For example, 90 days remaining of Xbox Game Pass Standard or Game Pass for Console will convert to 68 days of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate time.
  • EA Play conversion ratio: Any remaining time will convert to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate time at a ratio of 3:1 and be rounded up to the next full day. For example, 90 days remaining of EA Play will convert to 30 days of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate time."

Ok... So I'm confused. Assuming I've missed all the conversion deals, and I just want my son to have the ability to play online with his friends. Games he has already purchased or that are free to play (rocket league etc).

What do I need to buy to enable this? Is it Xbox live?
