XBOX Gamepass Ultimate conversion is back for £1

If I was to add 12 months of Core to my son's existing Ultimate, would it convert to 6 months Ultimate?
Unfortunately it doesn't. The rates changed again during the past summer and you'll get just over 3 months instead.

Taken direct from MS https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help...nage-subscriptions/xbox-game-pass-conversions

If his current sub is near to finishing, say next 2 or 3 months, it's best to let it lapse entirely. Then buy 12 months of Core then buy one month of Ultimate and then that will give you 6 months of Ultimate, as explained here from the same page above...

As you can see it's a better rate of conversion at some slightly extra added cost. Any saved game data, unlocked achievements etc will be retained during the period that his old sub is lapsed so don't worry about losing progress.

I'm thinking of getting 12 months of ultimate. Assuming current ultimate subscription has lapsed, and I don't want to use VPN or non UK codes, I calculated the below:

Easiest (most expensive price)
Buy via console/ms site: 12x£14.99=£179.88.

Minimal faff (medium price)
cdkeys sell 3 months keys of gamepass ultimate for 22.99 so buying 4 of those and stacking would be £91.96 (monthly price £7.66).

Most faff (cheapest price)
12 months gold/core from cdkeys for £31.99
stack 2 codes for 24 months for £63.98
convert to 12 months of ultimate by paying 1 month £14.99

Total for 12 months ultimate 63.98+14.99=£78.97 (monthly price £6.58).

Does that sum it up?

Yep. This is what I have at the moment, it was just to try out BLOPS6 Zombies, and now I'm hooked and 1 month doesn't seem long enough  . But it will work out expensive if I keep buying the 1 month codes.

I meant when you converting your 24 months gold into ultimate at the same time you can buy 1 month ultimate at the price of £8.99 from cdkeys rather than getting it from store for £14.99 to make it bit more cheaper.

Interesting, I never realised you can use the ultimate cheap codes to upgrade your core/gold membership!

That's how the "hack" works.

Get codes for Core (used to be call Xbox Live), get it for 3 years. Then 1 month of Ultimate, and it converts the entire thing to Ultimate.

It used to be 1:1. Then it went to 3:2 (3 years to 2 years), now it is 2:1. So 3 years to 18 months.

Since you used to be able to get 12 months XBL for like £30, so it was silly cheap.

Yes, I've done it before, the only difference is that I was getting the core/gold via cdkeys and then buying the ultimate upgrade via the web as it was offered for £1 back then. This was a couple of years ago though!

Now I think about it, it makes sense that the upgrade part also works with the ultimate 1 month codes via cdkeys, your xbox account already has the core subscription on it, it doesn't really care whether it is upgraded to ultimate via their webpage or via a cheap code, it applies the conversion ratio regardless.

Yeah, instead of the £1 through MS directly, it's now the £7 or so from CDkeys. The £1 only works the 1st time I think.

Mine runs out in two days. Has anyone added core to an already ultimate gamertag?

If I add 24 months core to my ultimate subscription will it convert to ultimate essentially saving me to buy the 1 month ultimate?

:edit: I have just read the conversion is now terrible and no longer 2:1. I just did 2 years of core and it has given me 8 months for £66 :( so 1 year is £100.

No, you'll only get just over 5 months added to ultimate for every 24 month core code you redeem on an already active ultimate subscription

You're better off letting the ultimate run out. Then buy 24 - 36 months of core, then convert to ultimate at a ratio of 2:1 i.e. 24 months core converts to 12 months ultimate

Yeah I will leave it then add another ultimate code. Seems silly why Microsoft do different conversion ratio's. Just seems idiotic really!

Jumping in on this thread, PC user only looking at the game pass.
So, buying a 2 years Core version from somewhere like CD keys, assuming they're about the cheapest, and then convert that to 12 months Ultimate.?
How is that conversing done.?

Thanks.

Has anyone done the India vpn method recently ie over last few days successfully? Looking at reddit/ hotukdeals they are cracking down on this/ vpn no longer works? Want to add this to a kids account but you cannot change region on them.. Might have to create a new adult account so can easily change region to redeem

After applying the core codes, you either click the "try ultimate for £1 offer" if that offer is currently available, or click try ultimate for £10.99 (the standard price when no offers are on) or you buy an ultimate code and redeem that.

Did you try the Indian route? Mines expired now and looking for the cheapest way to do it

I had to create a new adult Xbox account set to India region. Bought the keys from cdkeys but initially they wouldn't redeem (this issue was with nordvpn) until I switched to a better VPN then it worked.

I bought 3 x 12 month Xbox core India1 and Xbox Ultimate India (redeemed in that order).

In the future I might just use worldwide codes (not worth the headache of spending of £70odd quid to find the codes don't work).
