**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

Just found out that the Kinect can also detect your heart rate, facial features (i.e. smiling, angry) and if your sweating. Along with speech and motion.

And most of you (I know some of you have your man corners/caves) will have this device turned on by default in your front room, facing your families while your not using it....

The German Data Protection Minister called the Kinect "A twisted nightmare"

Seriously.....???

Have you got something to tell us? What are you scared of saying/doing in front of this camera exactly?

Deary me, when the system is on and you are using all Kinect offers then it's not just a microphone, not sure how you are missing this point.

Again, I'm not sure if we are getting crossed wires here.

The camera is "always on" unless turned off.

The vast majority of families will have it turned on, kids not understanding or parents.

So most families will have a highly advanced motion sensor camera turned on in there living rooms.

Apparently all it will be doing is waiting for the vocal commands, but has anyone actual looked into what data is being recorded/sent over the device?

It can be turned off if you dont like it from reading microsofts privacy coments, it says kinect can be disabled.

Im more worried about my wife posting youtube videos of me being forced to play just dance when im ratted than microsoft watching me in my living room and giving the info to GCHQ or something.

I dont really want the bloody but im more worried about home much extra the thing has added to the cost than the privacy issues.

So, your concern is that while the Xbox is off it will be recording both voice and video of the goings on within your living room? Is there any basis for these concerns at all?

We still don't know what information is being sent to the machine from the camera, we just know its waiting for voice commands when its not being used in games.

The levels of details it can detect, seem a little bit too advanced for the purpose of flailing your arms and legs around.

My ultimate concerns are privacy, why can this device not be offered separately, rather then having it rammed down our throat?

Microsoft signed up to the PRISM snooping system before any other company and now there forcing you to have a state of the art camera in your front room. (Conspiracy side kicking in here)

Just makes me incredibly uneasy about it.

I mean would you allow your council to put a CCTV camera and Microphone in your front room if they said it allowed you to use voice commands to turn off and on your devices?

Anyone know if Game in-store pre-orders are for the Day One edition? Amazon don't have it up yet, tempted to go with the Microsoft store but I remember the Surface RT launch failing dramatically direct from MS!

Pretty hard when none of us actually have a Xbox One :)

But you do seem really paranoid about it so perhaps best you don't get one, or use a mobile phone (they are listening) in fact you should probably not even be online as they are tracking you....:p

Um, what?

My ultimate concerns are privacy, why can this device not be offered separately, rather then having it rammed down our throat?

So it would be fine if it recorded everything you did without notifying you as long as it's an optional accessory?

But it's not just flailing is it, it's supposed to detect precise movements etc. Yeah offering it separately would have been an option and I can understand people not wanting to pay extra for something they don't want but the whole conspiracy stuff is mental.

Sony's Jack Tretton confirms third-party publishers can enforce DRM for playing used games online, just like with PS3

This morning, Tretton said: "Well, I mean, we create the platform, we've certainly stated that our first-party games are not going to be doing that, but we welcome publishers and their business models to our platform. There's gonna be free-to-play, there's gonna be every potential business model on there, and again, that's up to their relationship with the consumer, what do they think is going to put them in the best fit. We're not going to dictate that, we're gonna give them a platform to publish on. The DRM decision is going to have to be answered by the third parties, it's not something we're going to control, or dictate, or mandate, or implement."

this is exactly what Microsoft have said as well but why do people not see that sony doing the same?

ok I admit the 24hr check is diff but the publishers are gonna decide DRM same as X1, if the have DRM on the X! I bet you a stack of money the publisher will do same on ps4. makes no sense for the publisher to implement DRM on one console and not the other

Um, what?

I don't understand why the device has the ability to detect facial features, sweating and other things when your playing things like dance dance revolution or Disney stupid flying game.

It seems that they've packed a lot of high end abilities into a camera that most people will only use for motion.

So it would be fine if it recorded everything you did without notifying you as long as it's an optional accessory?

Yeah, because then you've opted into it, rather then having to opt out.

Most University ethics committees force your studies to have opt in as opposed to opt out. No idea why i mentioned that, just slightly interesting.
