**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

Exactly, when it's on it will be used for games or voice control, when it's off you can use it to turn on the Xbox. So what else do you think it will be doing?

Just being able to raise that question is enough of a concern to some it seems.

What Microsoft is doing is to topical and has clearly not been thought through very well.

because I have had 4 xbox's, kids have accounts and friends, xbox gold etc etc and I would have got the Xbone if it was the straight upgrade without all the rules and requirements. MS might get the message if they see enough backlash against it and maybe change some of this before launch. If not then I'll do the consumer thing and vote with my wallet

There is no going back. If they wanted to, they could certainly delay the launch by up to twelve months, remove loads of features from the OS and instruct developers to make Kinect optional in their games. However, the shareholder backlash would be a lot worse than what games are giving them now. As a result, it isn't going to happen. Better to release the console anyway, see how the general public reacts (it might well be fine) and then take any necessary actions post-launch.

Sony has already confirmed they are not going to allow any developers to implement an online pass system and the DRM system on the PS4 is EXACTLY the same as PS3. Nothing has changed. PS4 will be nothing like the XB1 in terms of restrictions, so please so stop to insist they will be the same.

Online pass is already on the ps3 u seem to forget that. That what I posted is a quote from yesterday from a Sony exec. They have said the drm is upto the developers and publishers. They said Sony games will not have this but said 3rd party games it's upto them

Hers another story from yesterday

Sony has backtracked somewhat on its promise that'll you be able to play second-hand games on the PlayStation 4, saying in a statement sent to CNET, "Similar to PS3, we will not dictate the online used game strategy (the ability to play used games online) of our publishing partners."

It added that its current Online Pass (also known as PS Pass) system, which means only the first buyer of a specific game gets to use its online features for free, would not be continuing for its self-published, first-party games.

That sounds similar to Microsoft's assertion that Microsoft Studios games won't be controlled in terms of second-hand sales (although there are some minor restrictions on sharing), but other publishers can do what they like.

But it's not much different than Google having access to millions of peoples mobile phones! Who knows what they are doing!!!!!

I wonder how many people are using an alternative keyboard on an android phone? They can see everything you type technically.

In this world there are so many ways our privacy can be impeded on if you're being that strict.

Funny as Last of Us comes with a online pass......

I've order from Shopto with an order for PS4 too, but with no Uncharted announce which is the only PS3 exclusive I actually enjoyed I feel I maybe cancelling the PS4.

....I actually quit fancy two XB1's, one for the living room and one for the games room. That way the worlds spy can watch me slob out in two different locations ;)

I wouldn't say it hasn't been thought through very well, I'd say it hasn't been communicated well at all though sadly :(
This. I'm not sure what MS have done worse this time - is it the policies they've put in place, or the awful way they've put them across? Surely all they had to do was run their conference in private in front of a few (non Xbox-fanboy) gamers and then listen to their reaction. Any educated gamer could have pointed out several ways to better explain features, and how to sell other features better. Microsoft's good features are being lost in the rage and it's a shame. Hopefully with Gamescom and TGS still to come they can change public perception with a much clearer message about the console, but they'll have to work damn hard to do it.

But Sony have already confirmed that because all online play has to be done through PS+, they are not allowing online passes for anyone.

Is the damage already done tho? So many stories online and in the press, can they turn it around?

Course they can use DRM codes, and to be honest i dont really care about that Sony are trying to put a stop to it though, whether they do or not is a different story but atleast you can still sell on the game for single player etc

Of course they can, Have Sony repaired their reputation from lying about rumble on the DS3, removing Linux or to go back further the rootkit stuff on music CD's? Consumers have a short memory (not to mention that most of this 'damage' is not across the entire customer base)

Can they turn it around? Absolutely! Gamers are fickle, they want the best system available. If MS do something about the things everyone has raged about and turn the Xbox One into the most feature-rich console out there, people will want it.

Will they turn it around? That's a completely different story. I said it in this thread earlier I think - if their desire to be the top console is greater than their stubborness over their new policies, they can regain the support they've lost. If it's not, then the PS4 will win the console war very quickly.

He's wrong though, it's not strictly the same. In some ways it's better (no online passes), and in some ways it's worse (having to pay for PS+ to play online). Swings and roundabouts come to mind.

But both consoles now have to pay subscription for MP i also heard a rumous PS + was cheaper than XBL and they will also get more features that XBL.. If Sony can stop online passes great, then its absolutely a bonus but if not then so be it, its only the same as the Xbox 360 currently.

Yeah so if PS4 is the same as he said then publishers can use DRM codes as Sony said?

Wow, you guys just keep trying to pick holes in this don't you.

We've already come right out and said we're not going to allow online pass. And the word "allow" is key there. Specifically with online, with PS+ requiring a charge to play online, we would not want any publisher [to charge.]

In general, we're all businesses. Sony or Microsoft is never going to be able to tell EA or Activision exactly what they can do. What we like to say at PlayStation is that we set the precedent. The way we are approaching this is that we want this to be extremely consumer-friendly, extremely retailer-friendly, and extremely publisher-friendly. My personal opinion is that it's hard for me to believe that any major publisher is going to put an extra set of used DRM onto game titles because that wouldn't put them in a good spot, right?

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/...on_Sonys_DRM_policies_No_more_online_pass.php

Please can you now just accept the fact that the horrible restrictions seen on XB1 are not going to be on PS4, no matter how much you try to twist everything to make it seem like it might happen. It wont.

fair enough, as they say no publicity is bad publicity :)
