**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

But both consoles now have to pay subscription for MP i also heard a rumous PS + was cheaper than XBL and they will also get more features that XBL.. If Sony can stop online passes great, then its absolutely a bonus but if not then so be it, its only the same as the Xbox 360 currently.
I've not heard much about the new features on PS+, but tbh I imagine both will change dramatically over the next year or two. As for price, assuming you can use codes for subscription like you can now, I think there will be little difference in the price for a year with shop discounts etc.

Wow, you guys just keep trying to pick holes in this don't you.

Please can you now just accept the fact that the horrible restrictions seen on XB1 are not going to be on PS4, no matter how much you try to twist everything to make it seem like it might happen. It wont.

Sony won't have online codes, nothing to say they won't have single player codes? I am pretty sure MS and Sony have both said it's up to the publisher no?

I've order from Shopto with an order for PS4 too, but with no Uncharted announce which is the only PS3 exclusive I actually enjoyed I feel I maybe cancelling the PS4.

....I actually quit fancy two XB1's, one for the living room and one for the games room. That way the worlds spy can watch me slob out in two different locations ;)

Same, I'll be getting both systems, but 2 Xbox ONES eventually. We'll be moving house next year all going well, so that'll be an ideal time. I currently have 2 xbox's, one for my man cave and the other for downstairs which is used to stream from upstairs and netflix etc;

If xbox ONE provides decent TV compatibility when launched or a year down the line I'll get it integrated with the new house :)

Check that article dated day later than the one your quoting, Sony have slightly back tracked

Yeah, because then you've opted into it, rather then having to opt out.

Most University ethics committees force your studies to have opt in as opposed to opt out. No idea why i mentioned that, just slightly interesting.

Microsoft could sort all of this out if they wanted to, very easily.

Just make the Kinect work on Xbox one like it does now on the 360. Plug in a game that needs the kinect and it won't let you play until you plug it in.

If you turn the Xbox one on without the Kinect plugged in, you get a little box warning you that voice commands etc.. won't work and press green to acknowledge.

Job done, then all those woried about privacy can just unplug it and leave it unplugged for their entire ownership of the console unless they buy a kinect game.

I doubt they'll have single player codes. Considering the PS4 can be used completely offline, how do you confirm the code hasn't been used before?

Presumably state on the box of the game that it requires an internet connection to validate.

No internet, no game.

But thats the publishers decision, so MS can stand off and say its not there problem.

From what I understand, during the initial set up of the Xbox One you'll be asked all about Kinect. It's entirely possible that during set up you can simply switch it off and be done with it.

Indications suggest maybe they weren't planning on it at first

But with the negative reaction i reckon that will be a feature come release. Kills the whole debate. Just warn users that they lose voice commands etc.. and let them turn it off

But they had patents for it charging you different ammounts depending upon who is in the room and **** so they were definitely initially thinking of it being this device that always watches you and listens.

Microsoft really are idiots. I've never seen a company so badly publicize something like this, all this backslash is down to them, their fault.

This scheme they have is obviously planned as drm because they dont even know what it is or how to sell it. There is lots of plus's to their system as apposed to Sonys stuck with the disc drm.

Its the cloud, never have to worry about losing a game or errors and not being able to play because the disc is scratched. Where ever you go and their is an Xbox connected you have a huge library of games you can play. Immediate access to that library of games, no getting up and having to put the disc in.

You could keep the games forever instead of as long as the disc may last. Be able to back them up onto a separate hard drives as long as its encrypted and able to be read by your own account. There not even assuring people that you will be able games forever or as long as you want. They could just lie say they will remove the drm when the time comes or promise to maintain them. There silence on this makes me think they are planning some kind of obsolescence for the Xboxone.

In lots of ways this is better than Sony's system. More people in the house can play the same game. You could keep the games a lot longer and they are more accessible than Sony's.

Microsoft were the ones that have been highlighting the downsides to it. All that CEO had to say was that people without internet could tether to a smart phone the check would use minimal bandwidth. And that they hoped this would spur companies to provide internet for everyone. Which will be required more in the future. They really need to learn from politicians do they not have PR advisor's?

But their policies dont really make sense. The 24 hour check should be replaced by one which checks when games are installed or once a month or something. As long as you dont change the state of the system there should be no problem.

They should have done this used game thing gradually like have a system where you can choose to install the game onto a harddrive and your account but if you do it is locked to your account.

Hiding in their shells and not confronting the issues and advertising the plus sides tells me they dont have a clue what they are doing. They at least need to reassure people that they arent going to screw them further down the line(otherwise they really are screwed).

Can't really argue with anything you've said there Calabi. A potentially great system being presented in the most shoddy way possible, causing nothing but confusion at best, and complete outrage at worst. It's shocking to think they didn't see this reaction coming.

The disc of a game will last for decades and you or your kids in the future will be able to play single player games just like you could with every other console that has come before it. How long will Microsoft keep on their servers?

I am in a predicament

I'm not excited about the PS4

I am excited about the XBOX One

Family (esp the kids) love the Kinect, especially Kinect Sports

I have fibre broadband, never buy used games and all the exclusive titles on xbox are the games I really enjoy. Looking at the PS4 selection...to me personally, is a bit meh

You'd think the obvious choice for me would be the xbox.

HOWEVER....

I HATE DRM. It's goes against my core principals in dictating what you can and can't do. I do want one of the consoles for Christmas as I'm a tech enthusiast and will desperately need my fix of hardware. Do I bend over and take it from Microsoft, or do I stick with my principals, buy the PS4 but wish I had bought the xbox (which is what will happen)

I'd say to hold fire until the Tokyo Games Show in September and see if MS have changed their stance by then. It's unlikely, but with all the negative publicity they're getting they may move to do something about it.

Yes their PR team need to be let go and they need to start again with a new tack.

Its the stuff they dont announce though which kind of syas what they eventually want to do with the tech

Now I know not every patent actually appears in real life but its all about the monitisation of not only games but all home entertainment. Might not happen for 10 years or more but it is the end game for MS

just buy the xbox because everything you described you like is on the xbox. you will get one eventualy if the family like the kinnect stuff so just go with it

Sony have similar patents, patents don't mean a company is heading that direction.
