**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

Anyone fancy attempting to guess what devs will do with a mandatory Kinect install other than what they are doing now? I dont see the install base as an issue, Im sure someone here mentioned Kinect did way over 20million sales (is that just X360 or maybe Windows too?) so its not like they dont have the a massive captive audience already.

I do think its a lot of hyperbole when people say 'Kinect will be much better once its mandatory' I just dont see that magically improving the situation. I look at six axis and think wow 7+ years, 70million of you out there, yep developers still using it :p

Kinect just means more kinect games with the same limited experience outside those game types. If it could be different why hasnt MS sold us the difference, they showed 2 kinect games off stage and nothing on the E3 stage, to me it makes sense if you are making people pay for it rather than ignore it, sell it big time...

I know they are damned if they do and damned if they dont, but it wasnt me that decided to make it a mandatory peripheral, MS did, so why arent they embracing it? Make it a feature, not a tick box :/

EDIT: Im kinda grumpy, but tbh far more so at the people that give that wishy-washy reasoning than anything...

I think the kinnect with the X1 should be better as less lag and things as the senser is much improved so they say, can detect things better so maybe it will be able to do more fine movements in games. the kinnect sensor when it first came out reminds me of the first wii controller we were all like wow look what that can do when in fact it was very limited and only used small movements to play games, were as when advertised you had to take full swings to play tennis on wii. the first kinnect was to cut down on what they originaly wanted to do, the first kinnect had its own processor inside it to calculator all the movents but I think it turned out to expensive and they just used the 360 instead which in turn brought lag with it

Yeah, they did exactly what people asked for...
Shami if it wasnt me that would have been a great jump off point for someone :p. Duck and weave :)

So what does less lag mean for games? What does finer granularity in movement mean for games?

Im not expecting you to answer this at all, but I swear Ive gone to Currys and someones selling me a Monster cable :p

EDIT: To explain myself better, Im just saying we all understand from a technical standpoint the improvements in Kinect, but Ive seen limited reasoning how those are features translate to gaming even with Rares game. Like the whole expression thing - when is that going to be used?

I had a thought while watching the E3 presentation.

While, the initial launch presentation focused on being (in my opinion) an all in entertainment centre for the living room, there was very little focus on the Kinnect games.

If Microsoft are trying to sell this as an entertainment centre for the living room, which goes above and beyond the standard 'Games console' then it would make sense to push the kinnect so that parents can see how it will appeal to everyone? So, you have all the entertainment, television and social features of the xbox one and then you have games for the 'big people' and then with the kinnect they have games for the 'little people', selling this as a console for the entire family?

I imagine after the slating MS got at the Xbox launch the last thing they really wanted to do was turn up at E3 and list loads of Kinect games :D

That was certainly a good choice by them, even though a lot about the console is awful, at least they showed some good games. If they had got on stage and started playing crappy jump around and wave your arms games it would have been a mega disaster

How many parents do you think watch E3?

I don't think it's parents per say, poor choice of words maybe, but anyone who has a family that might watch E3?

I still think that's a low proportion, it's natural that E3 would target the core (it's something both they and Sony have failed at in the past) There are other ways to show off the other features and I'm sure they'll be doing that in the coming months.

Also I think they're selling Kinect not as something that has 'Kinect games' but can be used for all games. There was a lot of voice capture shown off for example (and the same with Smartglass), selling the idea that it can fit into how you use the console rather than being a separate thing.

That's a good point in trying to sell the kinnect as part of the console, but I still think they need to push towards the family / entertainment centre point of view more, as that is (in my humble opinion) where Microsoft want to take the console.

Less lag is when you move ur hand in the real world you hand in the virtual world should move at the same time , thus making it more responsive. I think lol

Noticed amazon are now selling 2 Xbox 1's a day one edition and a standard edition.
Does anyone know the difference between the two?

Day One edition comes with limited edition controller and a Day One achievement (I kid you not..0G though) :-)

Also included are some free DLC for Forza 5, Ryse etc..

Some news for those who expect Microsoft to backtrack before launch.

Those hoping for a swift U-turn from Microsoft look set for disappointment.

Microsoft’s studios boss Phil Spencer has told CVG that the policies regarding Xbox One’s online and software authorisation requirements are “definitive” and will remain in place. For now.

"We wanted to set our definitive policy in black and white terms on Xbox Wire, which we did last week. That's our policy," he insisted.

Spencer did add, however, that like any entertainment company Microsoft listens to consumers and Xbox One will evolve over time.

"When we first shipped the Xbox 360 the idea of a Netflix didn't exist,” he explained. “That robustness that we see in the digital marketplace around content wasn't there. Free-to-play wasn't a way that people bought games.

"And through the life of 360 there have been policy changes and Marketplace changes that have responded to consumer demand, creator demand and what's happening in the marketplace.

“These systems evolve. We're a software company. If you think about the amount of times we changed the operating system on 360 – it was a number of times. But we wanted to set our policy as it is for Xbox One in clear terms so that there wasn't ambiguity in what our stance was. That was our intent."
