**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

You guys do realise that this was the console launch announcement right? E3 is where we will see the games line-ups + in-game footage.

This event wasn't designed to show the world the games, so how can you be disappointed about something that wasn't meant to happen?

There seems to be a lot of confused people on this thread.

I think most people's problems with this is the fact that they seem more concerned about getting the service features out there instead of the games. At a console reveal I want to see games for the games console, not find out it can stream Sky Go or whatever.

A launch event is about setting the tone of a product. The playstation launch event was unashamedly game driven. The xbox launch event was unashamedly home media hub driven.
Perhaps, just perhaps with E3 so close around the corner they wanted to announce the console ahead of announcing their launch line-up at E3 rather than waste time talking about the device itself?

Just watched the reveal, have to say I quite like the look of it, would look better with my media pc, amp than the PS3 does at the moment.

I do like the whole Kinect integration, although with my TV being wall mounted and no mantelpiece will be interesting to see if I can perch it on the TB dependent on the size of it.

WOW WOW WOW

Total game changer for the next decade!

Microsoft have just pretty much pooped on Apple, Google and Sony from a VERY big height

I wasn't expecting this! I was thinking xbox360 with better graphics and a new GUI interface. This is something else. Probably why it's called the XBOX ONE.

First generation of a new entertainment solution. We really are starting to see technology come together now. VERY impressive. Well done MS Team!

I've been upgrading my MCSE to include the cloud certification and only now has it clicked what they are trying to do with Skydrive, Skype, Windows 8, Mobile 8, Smartglass, MS Store, Azure etc etc

fanboy comment and the sad thing is I was a huge Xbox fan. Xbox One....It still makes me laugh:D

Sky Go is a dealbreaker for me. If it's on the PS4 then i'll get whichever is best.

I had a PS3 and it broke so got a 360, which despite the online fee which was annoying i found to be much better online. Connecting to games with friends etc was much easier so adding the Sky Go I didn't mind paying 10p a day.

They were the leaked specs. All microsoft have confirmed is that they didn't aim for top end graphics

ah so that pretty much confirms it wont be as powerful as a ps4, but games will scale up well because of similar hardware so unlike last gen ps4 ports will generally look better, and be closer to a high end pc for a few years while the xbox one will look dated, if thats the case they've shot themselves in the foot even if its vastly cheaper.

It's not wrong for Microsoft to bring features such as media centres to the console, as they are trying to promote the whole "ONE" feature. Gaming should be the focus as that's what people expect, and realistically want. However as a bonus having media features is always good and convenient. When in bed, I use my xbox daily to watch netflix - so I can see the attraction.

Interestingly I just went through some stuff again and they mention developers can offload compute power to the cloud (presumably virtual machines and compute power on Azure). That could be massive, doubling or more the compute and rendering power of the device.

Me too. own all also. My xbox days are done. PS4 is my only hope.

Then you will really be missing out. Let the reveal sink in for a few days.

It's NOT a games console. It's a new entertainment system like nothing before.
Now my kids can watch cartoons with their grandma real-time! My boy can play football with his grandad on kinect everynight while actually seeing his facial expressions. Great family system this.

On face value both both the Xbox One and PS4 look to be able to churn out 1920x1080 res games at min of 60fps which is hardly a "low spec PC".

I don't know where you're getting that information from. The new consoles are using a fairly outdated set of hardware, bar a few components, and it's hard to expect them to go through all titles at the maximum framerate all the time, especially later on in the development cycle.

Where it comes to minimum framerates, I would bet a lot of money that they will be below average of 60 in a lot of situations. It's almost impossible to get both the looks and performance on the budget.
