**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

How would they do it now?

The only way I can see it is only for games that are bought digitally.

Would be nice if they kept all the features they were planning but just for digital titles.

This can't happen though, without checking licenses. Which they've now removed. Tey have said that digital games act like physical games, that's it. When clarification comes, every bit of new digital consumer rights they tried adding, will be gone. They can't do it without these minimal checks they had.

Some of us aren't upset with MS, rather more the short sighted and narrow minded "public" that has forced this redact.
I think your view is very narrow minded, its not like we live in a technocracy, ultimately the majority are deemed to be 'right' whatever your opinion is. Always worked that way...

I am kind of disappointed that they have changed their policy purely because of the sharing feature. Shame really. I am still going to get one.

MS' timing for this announcement was a bit suspect. I see on BBC News that Sony released a dodgy firmware update which has caused the PS3 to be bricked until fixed with another update. There seem to be a lot of people complaining on the Sony forums in the US. Link

They could keep it for digital titles (as those people clearly have internet access anyway.) Or have an offline mode similar to how Steam works.

They've already announced they aren't. Digital games will now work like physical games, and won't need a connection.

So no, it's gone.

You're entitled to that opinion but all we've done here is stunt growth because of some relatively minor issues that 90% of those complaining about had no actual reason *to* complain - they did it because they can.

We live in that kind of generation now, it's rather sad.

The very definition of narrow minded is not being able to see other viewpoints or circumstances, something that if you'd read my previous two posts, would totally invalidate your aforementioned claim.

Lastly, if you believe that a "majority" are always right, you're incredibly misguided since some of the worlds worst decisions have been made based on that premise.

Its quite a sad fact that yet again we have more important things to discuss than the game themselves...

I think history wants to remind you that this kind of thing has been happening many times over - it isnt new. I think you fall well within your own definition Im afraid. I dont actually necessarily disagree with your overall point, the way you have put it I do...

It's a bit like having a friend steal your wallet, then when you notice and shout at him and stop being his friend. He then realises that you're worth more money to him than what was in the wallet so he eventually caves and gives it back. Then you say "Kudos friend, thanks for giving me my wallet back, you're a cool guy after all"..
Sorry but that's a poor example. MS tried to do something innovative around digital distribution, not screw over their customers. They had categorically said they MS would not take any fee for selling second hand games etc. What they had tried to do was add a different model by using DRM they could allow you to not require a disc in the drive to play a game and share all you game library with 10 friends and family. It was an attempt to do something different and interesting despite what some would try to paint.

They tried to do something different and took the time to listen to customer feedback and change the plan, that is a good thing in my book. It's a shame so many feel the need to paint it as something they can gloat over.

I still don't get why so many negative posts come in the Xbox One thread from people who have decided to buy a PS4 and don't like or want XBox One. Jeeze, fanboys

So the next next gen...ps5 etc , the release at e3 will be ultra conservative to avoid this kind of scenario. Valve bedding steam in is quite impressive when you consider the xbone backlash

I still wouldn't touch it with a ****ty stick after what Don Mattrick suggested consumers to do if they couldn't acquire an Internet connection. "Get an Xbox 360" lol, what a colossal ****.

Well MS needed to do something, they've had worse PR than Max Clifford of late. I'm glad for the change really, for everything MS did wrong Sony did the opposite and seemed to gain a lot of favour. I want to see a competitive next generation.

I have no idea which next gen console I'll go for yet, I bought a PS3 today after being xbox 360 for 4 years. At least the "war" can get back to being about the quality of the games now rather than the logistics of the second hand market (or is that wishful thinking!?) :)

You must have a very odd concept of narrow minded then because what I've claimed and mentioned in my previous posts is the polar opposite. I sympathize completely with those that require or make regular purchases and sales of used games. The always on DRM was blown massively out of proportion because people enjoy bandwagoning and as a previous poster mentioned, this whole situation became very much a storm in a tea cup.

I see it every day unfortunately, terrible decisions made by those who oppose new concepts and ideas, people who are easily swayed by the masses simply because "they" deem it the wrong or right thing to do.

Sometimes innovation and progress causes uproar, it's the nature of the beast but as history has proven again and again, going against the grain can be a necessary evil to give a better future. This is a victory for some but its effects on the overall industry will not be so favorable and will affect many more people than just those who opposed it.

Technically, Sony didn't "do" anything, and that's saddest thing about all of this. MS tried to innovate, Sony effectively said "we're not changing a thing", and the public forced MS to change back to the traditional systems. I like innovation, I like companies taking risks that could potentially benefit us. Like I said, I hope MS don't abandon their vision for the future, as I for one liked the way it looked.

You might suggest that, but he's actually not wrong. I've already seen that reaction on Twitter.

It's fundamentally wrong to assume that someone criticising the way MS have handled things (and rightly so) to be a "Sony fanboy" in a derogatory way, and shows a great deal of hypocrisy.

I don't really give a damn what the nerd herd on Twitter are saying, you'd hope for a bit more balance on here though.

I'm all for pointing out if people aren't giving MS a fair chance, but it comes across as quite disingenuous to pull a u-turn on this now after having already been blown out of the water by Sony. As I already pointed out, it also shows a massive disregard for customers and lack of market understanding, to the point where it looks like they have done absolutely no market research whatsoever. Is that really the type of company that you want to support? Gaming is a massive investment these days that over the lifespan of the console will cost you thousands, so it is not something to be taken lightly.
