**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

Don't care frankly, any company who can announce the kind of stuff they did.

You mean announcing far better consumer rights than any other company.
It's a damn shame as its set digital distribution back decades. All because Ms are crap at Pr and rather than just saying this is what it is, they released it in drips and drabs. Consumers picked up the first thing they heard and ran with it, even if it was nonsense.
MS always make these mistakes, it's like the whole win8 and start button, if they had included a proper tutorial and not a 2 second image, that would have nullified most complaints.

Also expect steam sharing to never materialise now, no reason to and no pressure to force developers/publishers.

It looks like the PS4 has won the 8th generation hands down already but I do hope that Wii U kicks off. Just a shame that staple games like Mario Bros are being announced so late and could result in Wii U in missing the boat.

I still wouldn't touch it with a ****ty stick after what Don Mattrick suggested consumers to do if they couldn't acquire an Internet connection. "Get an Xbox 360" lol, what a colossal ****.

Hes up there with Jeremy clarkson and pierce morgan.

I want to see both companys do well, keeps the market competitive, however I will not be buying xbox 1, and rightly so, after the rubbish they tried to pull.

This U turn might boost sales initially but the fact is the PS4 is $100 cheaper, has better specs and better exclusives, unless M$ drop the price to PS4 levels then Sony are gonna wipe the floor with them this gen.

And the Xbox One gains some ground :)
I have both consoles pre-ordered, only buying one, PS4 is still in the lead but only by a small margin.

I agree although I don't think that's a good example. They have never been aggressive enough with old game pricing. They should have effectively forced people digital with aggressive pricing instead of £20 for a 5 year old game. They should have under cut all the stores on new games by a fiver and second hand prices on old games.

If they had started that with the 360 people would have been far more interested by now.

They could have gotten away with the DRM if they announced game prices were going to undercut PS4 significantly. Say £30 new, and random -75% sales like Steam. But they got greedy, wanted the control of digital only without giving the gamers the biggest benefit.

I actually much prefer the Xbox exclusives and gaming line up...

Better exclusives is subjective not really a fact :)

Sorry but that's a poor example. MS tried to do something innovative around digital distribution, not screw over their customers. They had categorically said they MS would not take any fee for selling second hand games etc. What they had tried to do was add a different model by using DRM they could allow you to not require a disc in the drive to play a game and share all you game library with 10 friends and family. It was an attempt to do something different and interesting despite what some would try to paint.

They tried to do something different and took the time to listen to customer feedback and change the plan, that is a good thing in my book. It's a shame so many feel the need to paint it as something they can gloat over.

I still don't get why so many negative posts come in the Xbox One thread from people who have decided to buy a PS4 and don't like or want XBox One. Jeeze, fanboys

Do you honestly believe that fella? Christ.

This. Digital distribution and media has been very slow to take off and greed is the biggest factor imo.

I'm all for pointing out if people aren't giving MS a fair chance, but it comes across as quite disingenuous to pull a u-turn on this now after having already been blown out of the water by Sony. As I already pointed out, it also shows a massive disregard for customers and lack of market understanding, to the point where it looks like they have done absolutely no market research whatsoever. Is that really the type of company that you want to support? Gaming is a massive investment these days that over the lifespan of the console will cost you thousands, so it is not something to be taken lightly.

I don't know how much market research MS did before the launch, obviously we're not privy to that kind of information. I do imagine though that they thought there would be a lot more support than they got. Perhaps they banked on Sony having some kind of DRM and they thought their version was better (I have heard rumours Sony's lack of DRM was a relatively last minute decision). Perhaps they just thought gamers would love the idea of something like Steam on a console?

I am prepared to support MS however, even more so now that they have changed. Why? It shows they are willing to listen to their (potential) customers and change as needed. You can blast them all you want for their initial policies, but it takes guts to admit you got it wrong, and to make changes based on that. Yes, the pre-order figures likely had a lot to do with that, but those pre-orders are simply a business way of us as consumers saying that MS got it wrong. They saw the numbers, they read the articles, they saw the backlash, and they changed.

Considering you're blasting them here both for their initial policies and for changing them however, you do seem to be proving the point that MS are damned if they do, and damned if they don't.

Assuming Microsoft have kept the feature where you can play one game and matchmake for another at the same time, you will have to buy digital in order for this to work due to having to swap discs if you don't.
