**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

TBH I don't think the DRM and the Always-on ever existed other than on paper. I think announcing them as part of the console was just a marketing ploy. It created an uproar and has kept people talking about the console.

1. Announce controversial features no-one wants
2. Sit back whilst an uproar ensues
3. Reverse those 'features' to make it look like they care about their customer base.
4. A few weeks before the release date. There will be a "leaked memo" stating that they don't have enough consoles ready because of the software re-write to remove the 'features'. Panic ensues and retailers bump up the prices, leading to a 2 pronged news story, the "shortage" and the greedy retailers.

5 Profit.

yeah but it's still £100 more with hal included.

Seems like a bargain with an included Hal9000. :p

I think it's too late for them now, I think they've seen how well Sony is doing and are worried. They were so adamant that they had a bold vision of the future and they throw it away weeks after standing behind it claiming it's the way forward?

Money is what matters to Microsoft after all.

At least MS realise how... disrespected? They are over the One and are tryin to get some good publicity to reverse that. I think it is too late though as the problem is people thinking the PS4 is the hero of NG as well as MS bring the scum of NG. If people were undecided about the PS4 this recent announcement might chance a few minds but I don't think it will at this stage. Sony must be barely containing their glee!

People will forgot within a month. Remember when everyone thought the PS3 was the scum when it first came out?

Shame the family sharing and ability to play without a disc have been removed, those were 2 very good features.

MS were bold to try it out at this stage, as eventually this will be the model that consoles follow as it's only a matter of time before everything it fully digital. It just backfired on them as console gamers weren't ready for it. It would have taken both MS and Sony to come out with the same policies to make it work. I'm sure Steam probably had the same negativity from some when it was first released, but look how that turned out, a fantastic platform for releasing games.

Maybe the next next-gen :p

I thought they wouldn't get rid of the digital stuff, by back peddling, they/we have lost pretty much every single digital announcement. Making it a waste off time. Not sure why you would buy one over ps4 now. The digital stuff although not for everyone was a clear improvment, now it's just more expensive and less powerful, with no distinction or benefit.

Taking the 30 million figure from one of the other posts in this thread, that's a lot of users that bought an Xbox but didn't have an XBL subscription. That's also a lot of potential customers who wouldn't be able to play whatever game needs online access for the cloud stuff. If a game requires cloud computing then the chances are it's probably going to be quite ambitious and therefore costly to produce. Would the developer/publisher be willing to put such funds toward a project when they know that a large percentage possibly will not be able to buy it?

It's all speculation at this stage of course but at the moment Microsoft and the "unlimited power of the cloud" comes across as someone from a large high street computer chain trying to sell you Norton Anti-Virus. :p

I hoping the "Cloud" buzzword gets dropped now and people start calling it what it really is:

Dedicated servers.

There's nothing stopping them allowing that on DD games and driving the always connected thing through adding value to DD over disc. They won't though because it doesn't suit their agenda of maximising profits its as simple as that.

Nothing at e3 showed that ps4 was 50% more powerful, they both looked pretty similar to be honest. Maybe a few years down the line

The Xbox One demos were supposedly running on high end PC components compared to the Playstation 4 running on development kits more indicative of the final hardware specs.

I'm almost tempted to cancel my PS4 pre-order and get the xbox :o My main worry now is the xbox being up to 50% less powerful.

Same here.

Thats the reason I'm keeping my ps4 preorder.

It certainly makes the decision a lot harder, the exclusives (forza and halo mainly) always had me wanting an xbone but wasn't going to anywhere near launch but now I am tempted. Going to be a hard choice and I think it will depend on what other people get.

Regarding power difference, it might be easier to use this power than ps3 but I wouldn't past devs to make cross platform to the lowest denominator of the xbone. PS4 exclusives could be better though.

I think MS should have drip fed things, though if they keep the always on for DD games I don't see a problem with that. Especially if through DD the games either have more content (like the special editions do now) and/or they are cheaper than going instore. The price you would think could be achievable considering no need to makes the disc's and retailer to want a share of profit.

Perhaps, but I highly doubt MS would show off games running above the level they will actually run at. The games were designed and coded for the Xbox One don't forget, and even MS would have to know what the fallout would be if it turns out that the Xbox One games don't look as good or run as smooth as they did at E3.
