**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

Well, I don't think I'll be getting one. This new Xbox just has too many features I won't use.

I don't have Sky/Cable or even terrestrial channels tuned in to my TV. Everything I watch is downloaded to my server or streamed from the web.

I don't play online games. I grew out of that a few years ago, and haven't paid for a gold subscription since. As I don't pay for gold, my 360 use is crippled as I can't watch netflix on it, or use the browser. I won't buy a console that does anything similar again.

I don't own or plan on owning any blu-ray discs. Physical media is something I won't buy if I can avoid it. The only reason I buy physical Xbox games is that they're over priced if you download them.

I don't want or need Kinect. I tried it, it was novel for one evening at a mates, and that was the end of my interest.

As for the PS4, I can't say I'm too bothered about that either. I reserved judgement until I'd seen the Xbox offering, but PS4 is winning for me, but still not by enough to buy one.

Thank goodness GTA 5 is coming out. At least there's something to look forward to.

You've pretty much mirrored by feelings. I've realised that of late, gaming is something I'm losing more and more interest in, and neither the new Xbox or PS4 announcements have re-ignited any interest or excitement in me. I'm only keeping my current Xbox 360 to play GTA5 too.

From Reddit, a lowdown of the presentation.

* 'The new *Xbox One*!' - *oh you cannot be serious. Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One. Seriously?*
* Spend lots of time showing off the box - *come on guys, it just looks like a set top box*
* 'It turns on your TV and auto-updates in the background' - *neat, although not a massive technical achievement*
* 'We've revolutionised TV with.. hand gestures, and a slightly nicer programme guide!' - *again, neat, but wasn't this supposed to be a games console?*
* 'Look, I can watch the trailer for a film while I watch the film!' - *you could probably have found a better demo for this one.*
* 'It switches between apps fairly quickly!' - *haven't PCs been doing this kind of multitasking for, like, a good 15+ years?*
* 'Fantasy sports!' - *I could not care less. Also, almost certainly US-only*
* 'Skype! And an obvious pre-recorded and super-awkward call!' - *What an absolutely shocking revelation! Also, video calling has not existed ever before! Though it might have had it not been such a nightmare to develop apps for the 360!*
* 'ESPN!' - *More US-only sports TV, covering sports that only the US cares about!*
* '5 billion transistors!' - *WHAT?! Since when was that a recognised measure of performance?*
* Specs: 8GB RAM - *who knows whether that's going to be GDDR5 like the PS4*, 500GB hard drive - *I can see that filling up quickly*, Blu-ray drive - *Ah yes, Sony only implemented that one what? Seven years ago?*, USB3! - *you cannot be serious. How is this relevant?*
* 'Three operating systems!' - *does anybody care? This sounds suspiciously like a ******** explanation*
* '1080p Kinect sensor!' - *this is super-impressive technology being used in the most mediocre, mundane ways possible*
* Xbox Live MkIII! 'based on the same membership you have today' - *it's not going to be free, is it?*
* 'More personal achievements!' - *O RLY*
* 'Partnership with EA!' - *Oh christ, what are they going to do next?*
* EA guy: 'we're developing four super-profitable franchises that require practically no investment for the next Xbox!' Audience: 'Holy crap! We never saw this coming! Let's applaud like crazy!' - *I have never been more shocked in my life. They're going to keep making Fifa and Madden? Wow.*
* EA guy: 'an all-new game engine!'; \*Video of sports stars talking about how they are actually really clever guys\*; EA guy: \*describes engine in hilariously vague terms\*; \*Video clips of new games that are obviously cutscenes\* - *have you actually announced anything? Or is Ignite just a word you liked?*
* 'Next up! Forza!' - *yep, it's another obvious cutscene* - 'Quantum Break!' - *what the **** is going on!?*
* Woman who used to work at CBS: 'Xbox is about to become the next watercooler' - *kill me*
* 'Halo has always been more than a game.' - *care to explain how?*
* 'Halo TV series!' - *I predict bad things. Also, is this relevant to the Xbox?*
* 'NFL on the Xbox!' - *yay! Another US-exclusive service for a sport that only the US cares about! No mention of [soccer] football, the most popular sport on the face of the planet*
* \*Video of Microsoft guy and NFL guy talking in horrible, awful management-speak\* - *snore*
* 'One more thing! Call of Duty will keep existing!' - *Okay, I don't care, but lots of people do*
* 'New CoD engine!' - *this is genuinely the most surprising thing in this presentation. Hope it works well for them.*

well, ive ordered one.

followed xbox from the day it came out and will be doing the same with this.

Original xbox was so cool, those dashboard sounds and the look of it. Proper games console that was :(

Thank god parents got me one of those small controllers, holding the brick was awkward being 8 years old, I miss the black and white buttons to, god they were awkward :D

Okay long post coming up...

Is anyone else genuinely worried about Microsoft? I feel everything they are touching at the minute is turning to rubbish. Windows Phone is way behind iOS and Android and has been for some time. Windows 8 has had a very poor reception, the Surface tablet is selling poorly and to top it off they seem to be making the XBOX brand worse year by year.

It seems to me they just don't know what company they are trying to be, Apple and Google are pushing them under the water at a very fast rate at the minute and I feel this could be a Nokia situation where they are a huge house hold brand then over a number of years just start to disappear.

I was in Currys last week having a look at some Windows 8 notebooks and I couldn't get over how poorly designed the OS was, now I know I like my Apple stuff but I'm not anti Microsoft by any means. I thought Windows 7 was a great OS. But 8, it was shocking. Even just browsing through the settings menu felt unnatural.

They need to scrap this horrible Metro UI and start to re organise there devisions ASAP. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ballmer get the boot soon.

Oh, and the Xbox One looks like a 1980's VHS player.

Herpdederphepderp.

There's a massive difference between "I don't like" and "is rubbish". You should learn it.

New controller looks nice. That's the only good thing I saw in this presentation.
Console is ugly and MASSIVE.
No new games. Although we may see these at E3.
New dashboard with even more sodding adverts!

Totally failed to get any interest out of me.
