**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

Yet it will still end up with far more console exclusives than your logic that the PC market and the 'ease of porting' will mean more XO and PC only titles. That API differential already exists today and yet hasnt led to anything like you are suggesting...

You really need to read my posts and stop just making up what you want to think I said. I'm saying all I see the extra power in the PS4 being used for is sloppier ports, games using that extra power to look the same with less effort, rather than better with the same effort a 360->PS3 would take now. Not that PS4 games wont be profitable at all.

"I just think publishers will see a chance for better margins than better ports"

Developers want great games, that's why they went into that field. Unfortunately publishers just want great profits, and CoD looking better on PS4 than XB1 wont bring more money, so Activision won't invest in it.

I dont think you make your case any better using CoD as an example. Thats definitely the least amount of effort required for maximum profit model right there :p.

Honestly I just didnt understand your logic that the API defines ease of porting, especially as youve previously said there multiple other factors to consider (hell the memory subsystem management for a start differs entirely). Once DirectX moves on the PC the XOs version most likely wont (it didnt for the X360), so you just have a similar issue that you feel the PS4 already will from the start.

It does scream the possibility that both PC and PS4 gamers will get stuck with sloppier ports due to XO being the lowest common denominator for the next gen (I just hope where the PC is involved that effort into LODs means the PS4 is better catered/targeted for - its why I think that additional effort you foresee to port to PS4 could just get absorbed as standard PC porting as geniunely the PS4 isnt much different to a PC from an engines POV). But whereas before some excuse could be given like architectural differences those just wont tread water this time around IMO.

I think gamers are intelligent enough to vote with their wallet if such things mainfest themselves (hell I know on PC I used to avoid Ubisoft games because how poor their console ports were). But then that goes against my first point about CoD existing :D

I didn't say bigger market did I? I said more profitable. Purely down to how little porting would have to be done.

You have a game coming out on PC, XB1 and PS4. 2 systems use DirectX, one uses its own API. Maybe it is just me but I would build the game around DirectX then port to PS4, that would simply be the easiest path. Publishers wont care about the PS4 looking its best, they will be happier with the cheaper option of it looking the same as the 360 version.

Exclusives will shine on the PS4 graphically, but multiplats? Not a chance, they will be the same on both consoles.

I think you're living in a bit of a dream world really. Assuming the PS4 really does end up being the more powerful console in practice (something which probably won't even be clear at launch), there are plenty of ways that power could be utilised. The idea that publishers won't sign-off on the extra work is nonsense, but even if it weren't, the extra power could just as easily be used to provide a greater framerate, higher resolution, a higher level of AA/AF, greater LOD distance, more particle effects etc, any number of things that don't require any huge amount of additional work on actual in-game assets. No different to most PS3/360 games currently really; there are rarely any real differences in terms of the actual in-game models, assets etc. It's all in the rendering and post-processing effects.

I really feel like I need to start charging them a consultancy fee :p. I think we are firmly in the embarrassing zone, sitting right next to the Sinclair C5 :D

As much as it makes them look stupid with all the u-turns it's good to see they aren't too stubborn and are actually listening to some things that people say. They could have easily been stubborn and stuck with there plans( which they know would lost them millions)

I didn't think listening to consumers was an embarrasment, but hey ho :)

All good news anyway, if it does include the headset it's one less thing to worry about buying somewhere down the line.

No I agree, I really think they need to name and shame people that had those ideas in the first place and get them to perform Seppuku. The further MS remove themselves from these individuals the better.

Problem you have is that some people will start to think without that movement how quickly will they u-turn the u-turn. Got to feel for the MS shareholders, they must be wondering WTF is going on...

Yep, its always good news for company to have a series of u-turns for their product weeks after a reveal, nothing at all embarrassing about that at all, nor indicates that they dont actually know what their target market wants. Makes me warm and confident how well they got it right I suppose...

Yep, they both seem to have finally caught on to the idea of catering to the market as opposed to just pushing their own agenda of what gaming should look like. MS still need to learn to be a bit more self-aware but at least they're slowly realising that many of their decisions are not what people want.

That is good to hear. Cant read the link as at work, but assume headset included and no extra charge?
Basically links to a magazine Gem, Xbox UK distributor, produces where it confirms what in the box and mentions a 'wired chat headset'

I won't deny they've made bad decisions, but I personally think it would be more embarrassing if they chose to stick with obviously unpopular decisions, instead of taking the sensible route and going the way the consumers are telling them to go.

That's just my opinion though, you obviously have your own and you're free to it :)

Don't get too excited, the source they refer to is ambiguious. It says:

So what's in the box? Each Xbox One system features a 500GB hard drive, Blu-ray player, built in Wif-Fi, the new Kinect, a HDMI cable, a redesigned Wireless Controller and a free 14 day trial of Xbox Live Gold to get new members up and running.

Mentions everything except the mic... but in a take out it says

XBOX ONE | NEED TO KNOW
  • Launching November 2013
  • Priced £429
  • Bundled with new version of Kinect
  • Includes redesigned wireless controller and wired Chat Headset
  • HDMI cable
  • 500GB hard disk storage
  • Blu-Ray player
  • Built-in Wi-Fi
This time it lists it. I'm not convinced until I hear it from the horses mouth.

I've never even heard of Electronic Theatre but we will see, I guess.

Nice move if true though I would most probably ditch it and buy a better one anyway.

Either way after there disaster at E3 no matter what they did they was going to look like tools. Being stubborn or U-turning which is now the case, im sure the majority of peoples pre-orders are going to stay the same no matter how many U-turns are made now, i still dont think the Kinnect will be dropped though but it should if they want more people to purchase.
