**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

i hope all the new hardware that's going in to these new consoles will get used for improved graphics/ bigger maps and whatever else in games
not just needed so all the background stuff (record your game/download in bg etc) can be running at the same time as playing a game

I hoped console makers would one day tone the aesthetics down a bit. Less 'toy' and more in keep with the rest of the hardware sat under my TV. I agree with you Nismo and welcome the change.

I agree that understated looks are probably the right move for consoles now. I quite like the idea of a basic looking black box housing a computational behemoth.

Just a few years ago you would have had people making a custom PC case out of old VCR's and microwave ovens, just to say they could show their skills at cramming hi tech PC gear in as small or incongruous a place as possible.

So much wrong in one post... What is it with the Sony Defence Force and FUD around here today?

-It's no more of a TV machine first than the current 360 and PS4 are with Netflix, Love Film, SkyGo, music, photos, IE etc now, it's just taken those services to next gen as well. People seem to keep conveniently forgetting the current consoles do all this stuff as well and no one says they're not gaming machines.

-It's already been specifically said in dozens of posts that it does allow used games and trading. They also clarified that anyone will be able to play the game on the xbox even if they have different accounts (i.e. a family with different accounts and one Xbox under the TV) and you'll be able to take your game elsewhere and install and play it it as long as you log in with your account.

-Kinect. You don't have to use it but it seems to have the potential to work quite nicely for a bunch of stuff outside of dance games.

-It's a black box - if that is the deciding criteria then of course that's your choice

-Games. they showed Forza 5, COD: Ghosts, Quantum Break, Fifa 14, NFL, NBA, UFC and promised 15 new Xbox exclusives in the first year of release including 8 new IPs, and separately announced Battlefield 4, Watchdogs, Assassins Creed IV: Black flag, as well as all EA DLC to be on Xbox first. This was in conjunction with saying that the main gaming announcements will be at E3 in two weeks...

*sigh*

Sorry to have to break it to you, but not everybody who wasn't impressed with the XO launch is part of the 'Sony Defence Force'. This isn't a warzone mate, it's video games. Calm down.

FYI, I like the 360 better than the PS4. I've owned both but sold my PS4 on due to a lack of games/poor online. However, I fail to see how anyone can be impressed by what MS just did. I wasn't that impressed by the PS4 launch due to a lack of games and not showing the design of the actual kit, but at least that's still clearly a games machine and had way better than expected specs for what it's expected to cost.

The fact remains: XO is still primarily a 'multimedia experience' (whatever that is), has a paucity of actual games, looks ugly, and is not user friendly as far as (more or less) always online and disallowing used games.

No, it's a games console with added TV/Skype etc functionality. It's primary purpose is still games. Why is this such a hard concept to grasp? OMG THEY'VE ADDED FEATURES I DON'T USE!!?!? I ONLY WANT GAMEZ THIS IS TURD.

Secondly, it ONE day since the announcement. How can you say it only has a few games? That's moronic. They even stated in the demo that they have more developers working on XO games right now than at any point in Xbox history.

As for the looks, they may not be to everyone's taste, but it doesn't look too different from high end AV amps and no one seems to be up in arms about those.

Lastly, how can you tell it's not user friendly? The dashboard is largely the same Metro style, so nothing new to learn there. The controller is intuitive from just looking at it, and there's now voice control. Unless you're a vegetable dribbling on to a chalkboard to communicate, I'd say it couldn't be much easier.

Yes there's a lot we don't know yet, but please at least try to keep some objectivity, or at the least a little common sense.

Microsoft Studios Corporate Vice President, Phil Spencer, has told Polygon that RARE will be at E3 this year.

Spencer Said “Fans of Rare and Rare IP I think will be pleased with what we’re going to show at E3, we had a limited amount of time today and a lot of story to tell. But Rare remains an incredibly important part of our development capability. That historic IP that they’ve built I think can play a real important role on Xbox One.”

With such a rich catalogue of games the question is which franchise will return, Killer Instinct, Blast Corps, Jet Force Jemini, RC Pro Am or even Perfect Dark?

A few people seem to be picking up on the design, size and heat. Given the PS4 will have very similar specs and will apparently be clocked higher it's safe to assume whatever heat the XBO produces will be increased in the PS4. Anyone expecting the PS4 to have some sleek minimalistic design will be in for a big shock imo.

Just reading around the news sites there are more nay's then yeah's for the xbox one from the comments.

Q. If it streams live TV and the person who buys it doesnt have a tv licence ? They need to get one ?

Another cost implication that a gamer may not have seen or significantly want ?

It's a good thing if you want a plug and play media centre

The big issue for me is it does a more restricted job than my htpc
I got the 360 only to play 2 player coop exclusives second hand
for the amount of time I use the console I have now it's not worth it

I would be utilising half the console but paying for it all. I guess a lot of people will feel the same

There are to many half a job htpc solutions atm
Smart tvs that do a partial job
Games consoles that do half a job
Htpc if you have one still does the most

The funny thing to me is the PS3 was a much better media centre than the 360 and lots on here used to use that as a selling point over the 360, now the Xbox is doing the same then it's a terrible mistake :D

Only if they make use of it. Thats like saying someone without a TV license who owns a computer will need a TV license because its capable of streaming live tv.

It doesn't. It has an HDMI input so that you can switch to your TV box (e.g. Freeview box, Sky+ box) through the console. There is no built-in tuner.

From what I hear it only streams TV content through an external box (something like a TiVo in the US, or Sky/V+ box here) so a TV license would already be required anyway.
