**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

I think the issue is that 1080p was expected to be the standard for next gen, and quite rightly so. Afterall 1080p TV's are now the standard. Also the fact PS4 seems to be pulling it off quite well is just making people notice just how underpowered XB1 is.

Not True at all,, drive club on the PS4 struggling to get more than 30 fps on 1080p .....

Quite surprised how many people seem to think that playing a game at 720p is in some way impossible or so offensive to their eyes that they'd rather play a 1080p pile of rubbish instead. We all moan that developers focus on graphics over gameplay and then you justify them doing it by acting as if 1080p is all that matters.

I'm perfectly comfortable with the fact that my PS4 will be more powerful than my XB1 but that doesn't mean I know the PS4 will have the better games or that it'll translate into a significantly better gaming experience even on multi-platform titles where the PS4 might look a bit prettier. The only time it'll impact my buying choice is if one or other actually performs worse in terms of fps, stuttering, etc.

I agree with a lot of what you said, for instance I have a PC that's more than capable of playing BF maxed out yet I choose to play on the console. I accepted the limitations that an 8 year old console has and that it plays at at a lower res.

When you are "upgrading" to a new console, a next gen console, you expect it to be proper HD, there were people who moaned that the current gen didn't do it, those people and most others would be expecting 1080 from the new one.

Gameplay is more important than graphics however why would you not expect the same gameplay but with better graphics and a higher res from your new console. Like I said I could understand it maybe on a multi-platform title or from lazy developers but on exclusives, it's disappointing especially at only 720p.

Translation:

Yes. Ripened tools help. Developer familiarity, too. Same thing occurred with PS3 and Cell last time around.

ESRAM is a handicap for now but a workaround will come.

Hardware power is always behind though. Never changing without a complete hardware update. 900-720p will be the norm. The games will be good though, and that's what matters. They'll just struggle more to work on the Xbox One.

I hug you friend Flash. It will get better, I promise.

Which is kinda what we all suspected anyway.

Not really, a lot of ppl were saying you won't see the difference, you may have been one of them I can't remember. I was suspecting this kinda of result but if it wasn't for cboats rumours and the discussions that they created and the techy ppl that got involved and put their share in, I probably wouldn't be suspecting this as strongly.

But still until I start seeing multiplats being confirmed as having lower res on the xboat
They'll still be a little bit of doubt in me. And the doubt comes from the parity thing

I'm pretty none-plus about the whole subject of resolution. I am getting both consoles on launch with the primary machine being the Xbox.

I sit at a good distance from a 50" plasma, I don't have 20/20 vision and I don't tend to wear my glasses while playing so my ability to resolve the difference between an up scaled 720p or 900p image and a full 1080p imaging won't be an issue. This will also be the case for most I would suspect, its not like your hovering inches from the screen like on when PC gaming.

Yes it slightly disappointing, however, at the end of the day its the games that count and my favourite franchises are on Xbox. I am rather looking forward to The Order 1886 on the PS4 though :D

So you mean it is true, because it's 1080p?

And it's not struggling for 30FPS, it's currently running at a stable 30FPS and they said they will try to get 60FPS if possible (maybe the delay will help with this)

I've been keeping an eye on the xo launch from afar. I've never been overly interested in the xo/ps4 debate as I know I'll stick with Microsoft due to friends on xbl and preference over the ps4 controller.

However I am fairly certain the execs at ms must be holding their heads in despair at the launch of the xo, it has truly been a disaster.all the rumors and uturns IMO prove that they have missed the ball, I wonder did they ever actually have consumer groups/research into what gamers wanted. Let's face it, everyone wants to willy wave and say they have bought the most powerful console. All this talk about developers having to get the most out of the xo just to get 1080 is a conversation that shouldn't be happening at the start of a consoles life, it should be at the end before the next upgrade.

I'll still get an xo simply because of the points raised above. However the news I would love to hear is that they are delaying the launch for 6 months to rework the hardwear, remove kinnect and so on. I know that's impossible at this stage but I'll bet the conversation has been had at Ms.

I've not been interested in the XBone since I first watched the live stream of the reveal. Have they changed anything with kinect after that or is it still required at all times?

I've avoided getting involved in the 720 v 1080 argument until now but I think I'll throw my 2p in.

I think people are jumping on the whole thing a little bit prematurely to be honest. I do understand the concerns though. After all, we're paying a minimum of £350 for a next gen console, both of which are meant to be roughly 10 times more powerful than the previous gen, yet both consoles (and more the Xbox One it seems) look to be having a little trouble in places running games at 1080p, something most people saw as being the standard this gen. It is a little annoying, but I think there are things to be aware of regarding this as well. For one, the consoles are brand new. While they may be based on PC architecture, I'm sure it'll still take quite a lot of time before developers get their heads around getting the full amount of power out of each system. Just compare the games at the start of the previous gen to the ones at the end, and look how far they came. Also, a lot of the games are either being developed across all platforms, or were initially designed for previous gen. Dead Rising 3 started out as a 360 game, rather than something written specifically for Xbox One. Games like COD and BF4 are running across 5 different systems. It's understandable that developers are struggling a little with next gen systems while still working on previous gen consoles as well.

I honestly think that in time, we will see all next gen games running at 1080p, but I think it'll only happen properly when games are being developed strictly for the next gen systems, and not also co-developed for current gen as well. Developers only have a finite amount of time and money, so while I'm sure they'd love to make the next gen versions of games hugely different to the current gen, sometimes there isn't just enough time and money for them to do so.

It's also interesting to note that some games are going to be fine on the Xbox One. Forza 5 is going to be running at 1080p and 60FPS. Visual Concepts has confirmed that NBA 2K14 will be running at 1080p and 60FPS on both next gen consoles (so no difference between the Xbox One and PS4). It can and will happen I believe with all games, in time.

For myself, I'm not overly bothered about the resolution. While I'd like to have all games running at 1080p and 60FPS, I know it's not always going to happen. I don't let it ruin the enjoyment of a game if it doesn't reach those standards. It's always about the experience and gameplay, and I'd much rather have the game running nice and smooth at 720/900p, than stuttering slightly at 1080p. I'm sure most people here would feel the same.

Also, it's not like games running at less than 1080p are bad games. Just look at games like GTA V, or the Uncharted series. Those games run at 720p (or less), yet are considered to be some of the best games of all time. As I've said before, if all you wanted was the game to look as good as possible, I encourage you all to not buy a next gen console, and upgrade your PCs instead. I guarantee nothing coming out on Xbox One or PS4 will look as good on those systems as they will on a PC.

At the end of the day, I don't really care if the Xbox One is "underpowered" (a really funny phrase), nor do I care if the games run at 900p while the PS4 versions run at 1080p. All I care about is playing great games. At the moment, I think anyone would be hard pressed to say the PS4 has a more appealing game line up at launch (unless you're a big indie fan), so that's why I won't be cancelling or swapping my Xbox One pre-order like some people here have.

Yeah can't argue with that, the community tends to leap on things slightly and blow it out of proportion. I think back to last gen and how some games ran and below 720p but still ended up looking brilliant, it's just not as important as people are making it out to be. And as you mentioned launch window is tricky to draw conclusions, looking back at last gen's and I'm not sure any of them were a good standard really! The Tony Hawk I remember being particularly appalling.

It just seems the wisest choice to wait now for the whole thing to mature.
.

That's always been the wisest choice, nothing has changed. As I said before any console you pre-order unless it's both of them has a pinch of brand loyalty attached. Otherwise you are ordering on the basis of a small list of games that might not even be good.

I wouldn't make the choice of pre-ordering 'similar' spec cameras from Nikon and Canon from a spec sheet without trying them hands on and seeing un bias reviews of performance.

£400 odd is too much for me to take a punt on a bunch of early games. Which I say again has a dull racing game and a boring zombie game that everyone will pretend is good so they have something to play but sell on asap ;)

I thought Kameo looked good at the time and I loved playing COD2. Infact I wish I hadn't given it away on the MM for free as I'd love to play the campaign again right now :(

Other than that the line up was a bunch of tearing mess for a while.
