**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

I'd not thought this through - what do I do with my old Xbox? Does it go somewhere else get sold... Hmm...

Think i'll use it as a thinly veiled excuse to clear out under the TV, re run the wiring and even go mad and cable tie it up so it looks less of a rats nest. Quite looking forward to it now it's quite close - seems only yesterday we were looking at the PS4 and XO reveals.
I won't sell my 360, certainly not with titles like Saints Row 4 and Arkham Origins that I've not played yet, and stuff like Dark Souls 2 still to come.

I cable tied everything behind my TV earlier this year, which I may live to regret now I'll be moving stuff around! Even with cable ties I can never get it looking really neat though, as I simply have too much stuff under the TV.

I'm unsure what to do with my consoles as well.

If I move my 360 to where my PS3 is, so my XO can go there, I then have nowhere for my PS3 to go. It may have to go upstairs, but then it will never get used.

I'm seriously tempted to create a thread just for people to moan, bitch and argue about the power differences between the two consoles. I'd love for the Xbox One and PS4 threads to just be discussions about the games and features on those consoles, rather than the whole "oh this game runs at 720p/900p" rubbish I'm seeing all the time.

Is it only me that's bored of seeing it everywhere?
Only if you lock those people to that thread and just let them go at it BR style

ps3ud0

I wonder if in doing that the Xbone will intercept the 360's graphical UI bits like achievement pop-ups and stuff and replace them with its own versions.

I would doubt it.

I am hopeful that once the demand for backwards comp comes around, there will be an optional download of the 360's OS that can run in a hyper-v session. Then the 360 can be retired to another room or kept as a spare

If I do that it'll probably end up with me being accused of being a MS fanboy again

I think it would be best to force people to discuss specific games in a thread specifically for that game, so people can discuss the differences on each console without filling up the PS4/Xb1 threads.

Most of the arguments/discussions start from comments about individual games so it would probably help keep it out of here quite well.

Given that the reviewers have said the 720p PS3 and Xbox 360 versions don't have the frame rate drop problems PS4 has I'd be surprised if the XO has more performance problems than PS4 despite being 720p rather than 1080p... The quoted tweet doesn't even mention XO, it just says "720p game"... Wishful thinking? Didn't take long for the resident PS4 defence team to turn up in the Xo thread again though did it.:D:o

:p:rolleyes::eek:

You're the one blaming Sony for CoD performance issues (when neither console is even out yet), I'm not sure how challenging that qualifies anyone as a fanboy.

If you have a problem with the way the game performs, the blame should be on the developers who have clearly done a complete rush-job to get the game out in time. Quite why anyone would reward such an attitude with their own money is beyond me.

I only suggested that because isn't that what it does with cable/satellite boxes? Intercepts their UI and replaces it with its own? Or am I barking up the wrong tree yet again? :p

It can't do that. What the STB outputs via HDMI is exactly what the Xbox One will get. It's just a pass-through, nothing more.

Whether they'll have some sort of Xbox-compatible mode that strips away the STB's own menus etc remains to be seen, but it's going to be a minefield for people to figure out either way. Personally, I don't see it happening for the UK at least. Sky for example will want their TV guide and their branding to be visible.

I completely agree with this. I feel both consoles are completely capable of running (the majority of) games at 1080p60. If they don't hit that, it will be likely be because they rushed to hit a particular deadline. That is not the fault of either MS or Sony (unless it's a first party title of course).

I was suggesting, and it was pure conjecture, that Sony may have had input in wanting COD to remain at 1080p even if it had a few frame rate issues rather than "blaming" Sony per se. IW said that the XO version was running at 1080p up until a month ago and only just decided with MS to go for 720p to provide smoother game play and use the hardware upscaler in XO to get back to 1080p instead.

Sony have had a lot of pre release marketing mileage from PS4 being "50%" faster than XO so I was suggesting that it would actually be quite a blow to PS4 pre release to have to admit it too had to run at 720p and so was postulating that perhaps it was kept at 1080p despite the performance problems. I don't think it unreasonable to believe Sony had a say in the matter, otherwise why would IW drop XO to 720p for performance issues and not PS4?

All pre release conjecture, no need to be so touchy about Sony though, my point was that resolution isn't everything and people may actually prefer smoother gameplay at 720p rather than compromised gameplay at 1080p native.

Given the wailing about XO and 720p I though it was relevant in the XO thread reassuring folks that have chosen XO that despite the slamming from PS4 fans (and the wider internet) it may not actually be a bad thing.

Because the Xbox One is perhaps less capable? Although again, I believe IW have said themselves that it had more to do with them rushing development. They didn't have time to get the game running as well as it potentially could be, and they expect you to buy it anyway. Hilarious.

Where was I touchy? You're trying to assign blame based on pure conjecture as you've said yourself, when IW have openly admitted that they've rushed things. If the Xbox One is capable of running the game smoothly at 1080p, it should be running smoothly at 1080p. Same goes for the PS4.

But neither console has launched yet, so it doesn't actually matter until they do. Don't get me wrong, it's not a good sign for a game to be having framerate issues but it's up to the developers to fix that in time for launch, although this habit they seem to have of releasing a game broken and fixing it afterwards is growing tiresome.

I don't really propose to go back and forth on this if you're going to be defensive about Sony, I do think but you're missing my point. If indeed the XO is less powerful (and I think that's a fair assumption) and that means the game doesn't run well it absolutely makes sense to drop the res. My point is if the reviews are to be believed PS4 is also having similar performance problems but has elected to remain at 1080p so why not drop it to 720p and get (even more) smooth gameplay?

It's not like one reviewer mentioned it, it's 3 or 4 reviewers from well respected sites.

Point being, perhaps in this case gameplay > resolution and COD being 720P on XO isn't necessarily a bad thing.
