There's a lot of assumptions being made in this thread, and you know what they say about assumptions. Why not just do what all sane gamers are doing and wait until after E3 and we (hopefully) know the full details of both consoles before writing one off?

I hate to say it but by this stage in the launch run up and considering what has been revealed, the assumptions which have a consensus will probably be right. They tended to be pretty close during the last console gen from this time to release.

What's the big deal? some people wouldn't blink at spending that amount on a computer, excluding games.

you have a really strange view on things dedicated handheld devices are most definitely not on the out.. As outside of emulating old games, tablet and such gaming is still kinda poor.

Sony won't be making another handheld.

Nvidia are trying - for some unknown reason.

Nintendo don't really have anywhere to go with the 3DS now.

Dedicated handhelds are on the decline. Why do you think games like Angry Birds, Temple Run, Jetpack Joyride, Real Racing are so popular? You talk tosh with saying they pretty much only emulate old games.

You really believe a large proportion of people on here haven't pirated games? Technically minded people, who openly use Newsgroups and magically seem to have played night on every game available? You're kidding yourself.

I went into a local independent games shop this morning, a dying breed and they are seriously upset by what Microsoft are doing.

They are even considering drastic measures such as re-branding entirely as a Sony gaming shop.

They showed me their pre-order lists, 70% in favour of the PS4 when Xbox sold more for them in previous years. Over the past two years sales were in favour of Sony's offerings.

Annoyingly it doesn't really matter what I agree with or disagree with...the best console is the one that most of my friends buy and that will probably be the Xbox, no point playing on my Norman.

Also I don't care how good games look, the age old argument about gameplay vs graphics...graphics are winning in the normal market. Fifa 13 was rubbish, complete ****e, I went back to PES. I can't imagine Fifa 14 playing that well...the last one was like table tennis on steroids...show people a cool looking video though and it's like...take my damn money EA...keep showing brilliant trailers and I'll continue to give you my money even though you smash people with premium additional content on the day of release, load your games with adverts and all other ********.

What a bad culture the console industry has these days, quality is replaced with money grabbing eye candy.

In hindsight, I can kind of see why MS did what they did with this reveal, what with E3 being right around the corner. By focussing on the non-gaming side of things, they've (hopefully) got these out of the way now and can spend the majority of the time at E3 discussing what matters to gamers, the games.

They had to go through the tv features, voice commands, sports tie-ins, skype etc at some point, and I'm glad they did it now rather than at E3. They've now got more time to focus on what really matters to us gamers at E3.

Of course it's not a brand new engine. But considering how much it has been upgraded from the original engine, it's hardly the same thing now.

Have Microsoft said anything about Xbox 360 status post Xbone release? will they continue to support it for a few years like Sony do or will they be dropping it entirely again like with the original Xbox?
