**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

LOL at the Scotty picture, that's exactly what I felt like yesterday when my Kinect wasn't paying the blindest bit of attention to anything I was saying. It's doesn't help that I'm Scottish and that toward the end I was saying "Computer..." as I was being reminded so much of that scene.

I have bf4 on the PC, which is why I'm avoiding it - seems a bit pointless having it on both :)

I'll certainly wait for the division though!

Ah fair point!

I was going to get it for PC, but all my PC buddies have either moved on, or aren't into the FPS genre, and those that are play Xbox, so, although I never thought I'd say it, I'm probably getting rid of my rig for an Xbox and it's simplicity!

What is this "crushed blacks" thing people are on about? Any examples?

Basically a loss of detail in darker areas

Few questions:

1) Anyone encountered much lag in 64 player BF4 battles? How is the 'power of the cloud' / dedicated servers stacking up?

2) Is it true that the Xbox One has no bitstream audio output option for Blu-Rays? I love my Master HD DTS light flashing up on the receiver!

You can pin anything you want to the front screen. Start dashboard is in front of you, go left for your pinned stuff, right for non pinned store and apps etc. In any area there's a dedicated "menu" button on the controller to give you context sensitive options for whatever it is you have highlighted. Still, people couldn't work out how to use windows 8 I suppose complaining about the lack of a start button despite having had one on every keyboard for the last 18 years :)[/IMG]

The pinning thing just seems like a mess as well though, I was watching a bit of the GiantBomb stream the other day and they were showing that if you have all your pins in an order that you want and then pin something new to the list it automatically goes to the front, so then to get it back in order you have to go through every other pin and select 'pin to front'.

The same goes for the 'my apps and games' menu, the most recent stuff just jumps straight to the front rather than being in a set order. Just splitting the apps from the games would be a good start!

Other things that are missing that I forgot to mention in my post:
Auto sign-in: Whilst the facial recognition to sign in is okay it doesn't always work or can take about 10 seconds, just bring back the feature to auto-sign in a specific account regardless of facial recognition.

Also if you miss an invite, you have to come out of the game and go into the notification centre to locate it.

I think quite a few issues would be solved for me if they re-introduced the 'mini guide' that used to come up when pressing the guide button on the 360.

I didn't mind the crushed blacks as I didn't know what they were, ignorance was bliss... However now I notice them I'm like FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

It doesn't take away from the fun, I have a pretty much top of the range PC and every console going as I see myself as a gamer and like having them all. I'll be keeping them, it's not that big a deal but still it's a shame.

I used that as an example. if it wasnt that youd be bleating on about resolution or frame rates. seriously, get a pc.

Nothing wrong with wanting the console with best FPS and resolution possible if you prefer console gaming.

Yep, I had my PS3 set on Full RGB even though my TV is only limited for quite a while. I didn't notice the crushed blacks until i started streaming video to the PS3, then it was obvious because of how much shadow detail was lost when compared to a Blu-ray movie.

I don't have an Xbox One, but how is it a console produces crushed blacks, I thought that would be down to the settings on the TV / Monitor?

It's often caused by running in RGB Full mode when your TV only supports RGB Limited, however the XB1 seems to be doing it for some other reason.

It's likely to just be a setting issue, in which case they should be able to fix it with a patch.

these people crying about crushed blacks etc should go and buy a pc. I seriously dont know what people who think like that are doing anywhere near the console scene.

I have a PC? Now what? :/ You're argument is pointless, the xbone suffers at present with the issue. If you're happy to burry your head in the sand, bend over and enjoy the MS ride then that's your choice. So 'these' people noticed a flaw in your beloved, sorry I'll reconsider console gaming in the future...

The console itself is producing the output so has full control over the image before it gets to the TV. It could be something simple like the output is getting incorrectly assigned settings (HDMI is getting DVI's settings for example). Not everyone seems to be getting it, if your TV can update the firmware may be worth trying that.

This issue is heavily tied to the xbones scaler, when scaling to 1080p on a 720p game that's when its killing the blacks.

Load Killer instinct up, go to character select, press the guide button, now look at the game within the small window - It'll look great, now go full screen and within seconds you'll see the change.
