**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

I have a PC? Now what? :/ You're argument is pointless, the xbone suffers at present with the issue. If you're happy to burry your head in the sand, bend over and enjoy the MS ride then that's your choice. So 'these' people noticed a flaw in your beloved, sorry I'll reconsider console gaming in the future...

do you hear yourself?

seriously this forum is embarrassing at time.

Crushed blacks? Is that the new thing to latch on to after you've read it on another gaming website? Isn't an issue AT ALL on my console/screen...maybe it's just, once again, limited to a few users who must have their voice heard.

Can't say I've noticed this black issue, everything looks fine to me

Because the example used is a photoshop job, and the reality is its nowhere near like that.
Ive worked in video for a while, I have never heard of the term "crushed blacks", it simply looks like a contrast/ gamma setting issue.
All devices with any kind of display output or one built in has a colour profile setting built in, seems they jsut have to tweak it, but then again it would be subject to their own tests as I wouldn't trust just what some random people on a forum say, for all we know they have their cables running along side a power cable , TV set up completely wrong etc.

My thoughts after owning the Xbone since launch day.

I like it in general.

I actually like the dashboard, it did take a little getting used to and it still has a few quirks but in general it's better than any dashboard that's come before it.

The kinect voice feature is hit and miss. When it works it's useful when it doesn't it's a pain. This was always going to be a gimmick for me.

The controller is awesome. I've been playing on the PS3 controller for about the last year and the Xbone controller is so much better it's almost a joke but then the 360 controller was always close to perfect anyway. I know they have made a lot of changes to the PS4 controller but the left analogue stick will always be in the wrong place. My only complaint is is that the LB and RB can't be pressed from any part of the button, only the outside. I have smallish hands so it's not an issue for me but a few of my friends have complained about this and I think it is a legitimate complaint.

As far as games are concerned I knew I was not going to be blown away by the graphics until at least next year. I'm enjoying the games I have (Assassins Creed, Ghosts, DR3 and fifa) but graphically they're nothing to write home about.

I've had no problems with it so far.

I'm tempted to get a new TV to replace my ageing 720p Samsung. I know none of the games really run at 1080p but do you guys think it's worth future proofing? I was going to look at the January sales and pick up something cheap(ish).

Ive never found Jan sales to be that good for any thing with a plug on it, maybe look out this week for Black Friday deals?

Oh god. Think before you type in future would you.

Just saw this on IGN - really good idea from Microsoft.

Microsoft is offering a free first-party game to some Xbox One users affected by hardware problems. Microsoft said in a statement, "While a replacement console is on its way, we want to ensure our advance exchange customers can stay in the game. We will provide each of them with a free digital download of one of the launch titles published by Microsoft Studios."

A digital copy of the selectable games -- you'd receive one copy of Forza Motorsport 5, Dead Rising 3, Ryse: Son of Rome, or Zoo Tycoon -- will still play on a machine with a malfunctioning disc drive, of course. In addition, Microsoft is replacing hardware at a faster rate than usual with its advance exchange program; Microsoft is sending replacement units before users mail out their faulty machines for repair.

What video do you work with as crushing blacks / clipping whites has been common vernacular in compositing for as long as I've been working with 3D (crushed blacks lose variation in dark areas, clipped whites lose variation in bright areas).

Edit: quoted wrong person

The resolution wouldn't be the most obvious change (imho, ymmv, nspcc) though Forza 5 would use it. The actual picture quality on a decent TV has improved fair whack over the last few years.

The least they could do is nothing, or just do what Sony are doing and replacing the consoles.

It's a nice gesture. Reading some of the comments on IGN it's like it's an admission of guilt from Microsoft or something.

It might be interpreted as a nice gesture, but given MS' prior criticisms for quality control issues, that's most definitely not what it actually is. Fortunately they seem to have learned a lesson or two since then in how to handle these things.

Well I haven't noticed any of these crushed blacks. Nice to see the same PS4 fanboys coming in here still, perhaps come friday they can give it a rest?

Well really it depends if your eyes are trained to notice it. It's not like you'll get a sign above them saying "crushing blacks here lads" :p.

It's one of those things you won't notice.

No crushed blacks here either. Set the tv up properly instead of expecting it to look perfect out of the box and enjoy the console. The sharpening level and hdmi blacks both had to be lowered for a more natural picture.

Everyone, once in a while, should try typing with their forehead. Don't let these people get you down brother, fight the good fight. I'd like to see them do better.

So crushed blacks = contrast too strong.

Yup. Crushed blacks refers to the grouping of an exposed image to the extreme left side of the histogram. The data is crushed against the left side, reducing detail in shadows to just pure black, which obviously isn't right. Most TVs have dynamic contrast or even balanced contrast settings that usually end up sacrificing the shadow detail for punchier colours. Run the calibrator on the xbox one for HDTV sets and follow the guidelines and you'll avoid it completely.

It's just the usual rubbish story about someone who doesnt know what they are talking about, spouting garbage as if it was gospel.
