Xbox One X

Okay thank you jase. See how it goes.
Heard of shut downs, noise, or not like being plugged into surge protectors.

I've got a post release one X and it runs silent, doesn't get too hot either. Though it does have a weird shutdown sequence (IIt leaves the fans running t cool the console off). Otherwise glad I purchased it!

Touch wood, my x seems to be one of the good ones. No issues so far except I lost all ability to find wi-fi one day. Did a console reset and it's all been tickety boo since. It's only happened once so far. I dont get noise issues.

Oh and I have had one lock up on rise of the tomb raider but fortunately that's the only one I have had since getting the console.

My new one is much quieter than the original I purchased but I doubt they are that far enough apart to be a different revision?

Just seen Red Dead Redemption has an X patch, it's meant to be awesome as well.

Edit: Bah, old news.... still damn good though, ill fire it up later for a blast, great game!

I've been toying with the thought of getting an xbox one x. However I have a few concerns:
  • How bothersome is 30fps having been used to 60fps?
  • Is the 30fps totally locked with never any stutters? Even games like AC Origins? Are games fully stutter/hitching free at 4k?
  • Does the console dashboard contain irremovable ads? However small or personalised, it would be good to know.
Thanks.

You say you are used to 60fps, so assume you play PC. If you still have and play PC then no point in getting an X imo as MS have basically no exclusives worth talking about and what they have is available on PC these days (unless you want to play some old games that have been patched).

If you are considering just getting a console to go with your PC then you will be better off getting a PS4 Pro which has a much better selection of exclusive games and performance wise there isn't much 'visible' difference in it.

It's hard to answer the 30fps question as it depends how well the developer implements it etc. Done well no problem at all.

The X dashboard contains a lot of adds which can not be removed and you're greeted with it on the first page when you start the console. It's one of the things that annoys me about the X, that and the dashboard to incredibly slow and frustrating at times.

Thanks. The ads would irritate me no end, particularly if you've paid for Gold! :( Cheers for the heads up on its OS sluggishness too. What about the game stutter/hitching?

Good games are generally good in terms of performance etc but that's all down to the game and developer and would be the same on all platforms inc PC, if a game is written/developed badly then it's not going to run well. I've recently played through Farcry 5 on the X and for a third party game it was good, same for Assassins Creed origins etc which looked and played really well.

You get one ad in the bottom right hand corner and it's normally just for a game or about the hype zone which is part of mixer. The OS used to he very sluggish but its much better now.

Well there are basically 5 main icons on the first page of the dash (excluding the link menus). Today for me its 3 of the last games/apps I used then "Gold - Win a 24K gold Xbox" and then a sponsored a Hype Zone thing, but that changes it was an advert for the custom controllers before. Even if you look as the small icons above them, its achievements and an ad for "spring add-on sale".

I agree it is better than it used to be but still very sluggish and frustrating and it seems to get slower with time.

I hate the interface personally. I guess part of its sluggish nature is that it's constantly loading images for these tiles and ads for deals etc from the internet?

Recently picked up a ps4 pro and it's just simple and snappy

I think these ads are a deal breaker for me. :(

I wouldn't be put off getting the console because of that, I find the entire dashboard annoying but it's not a deal breaker. I will stand by what I said though and I don't think the X is the best choice of console if you have a PC though.

We're all different, but for me part of the attraction returning to a console. Was for a focused platform for 4k gaming with a dashboard focused on your gaming stats and games you are playing. I have all my tech ad free and I don't relish the idea of turning on a console and having ads. Everyone will have boundaries and mine are pretty strict when it comes to ads. At least going by feedback on here by the sounds of it. ;) But for me its a normal expectation. Ads in the store would be fine, but not on the main interface for browsing my games. I think on a 65" panel they'd be even more in your face too! There were a couple of other concerns too, but this would be the straw on the camels back for my decision.

Thanks for the info though :) I'll stay with gaming on my PC, which is ad free. And focus my money on the next gpu generation in a few months time.

Thanks again for the info. Appreciated. :)
