Potentially stupid question but haven't found h=the answer yet. I have an XB1, and am looking to pre order some upcoming games such as F1, Fifa, etc. Will these work find on XB1X? Will they somehow get patched once the new console is out to run in 4k? Or will the XB1X have games released specifically for it?

Yes, they will work.
ALL old and future games will work . patching for better graphics depends on the maker.
All games for Xbox will work across all current gen Xbox consoles i.e. If you buy Fifa it will play on the Xbox One, Xbox One S and Xbox One X. There aren't specific games just for the new Xbox One X. So any games you currently own will work just fine on the new One X
Some older games will have patches to allow them to use the extra power of the One X, which might include higher frame rates, up to 4K resolution etc, but not every old game will be enhanced (expect to see more on which existing games will have patches at gamescom this evening) However older games that won't get patched, but say targeted 1080p/30fps or 1080p/60fps that didn't quite reach their target on the One/S etc might see them hit their target on the One X because they use game engines that naturally will use that extra power by default.
I would imagine most games being released from now on will probably have an enhanced mode for the One X
Brilliant thanks all. And will games con this evening be when the XB1X is officially released, or a least for pre order? Also, what 4k tvs do you guys use or are looking at to go with this console?
With regards to 4k TV's I can't help you there, I've only got a 1080p one a couple of years ago so that will have to last a little while longer, preferably until OLED 55" screens are below £1000!
Best thing I did was give up on PC gaming. Spent more time actually playing games rather than benchmarking and tweaking. I don't see the big differences anymore and just enjoy it for what it is....
I play the odd game of Civ on my laptop but don't miss it at all....

I would wait and see what happens with hdmi 2.1 on TVs at the moment. One X supports it too. I have a B6 and it's fantastic but can't wait for synced TV's...
As much as I'd like to ditch PC gaming completely, there are games on PC which I love that aren't on console, or ever likely to be, such as Total War series, Hearts of Iron series, most strategy games etc, but for everything else I can see me going console only due to PC part prices
Any reason why to wait to see about HDMI 2.1 screens? Would we see any benefit from it in this generation? Genuine question as I was looking to get a B7 too.
I need some pre order news.
