I play Gears 4 daily online with various teams and have done so throughout the series. Gears 4 was the first time we bought it on PC obviously and the differences are quite noticeable when it comes to competitive play.
In an all PC squad vs a console squad matches I can't remember the last time we were beaten by Xbox players. And now that I have the game on the One X, I do not play against PC players while on that system.
I turn off cross play as imo it's not fair for ranked matches. I know very good console/pad players and we have a laugh whenever we see who's in the lobby. There are pad players who love the challenge but we don't expect to lose against any pad team.
I know that's not proof or scientific but it's how it's been for quite a while. The option must be there for players to separate themselves otherwise it will be unfair imo.
Gears is too easy on mouse and keyboard but controller is more fun imo especially with other console only players. Gears on console feels like Gears but not on PC imo. Even by increasing the fov on PC gives the illusion of moving at higher speed. Can't do that on console.
And wall bouncing with a mouse is a lot easier to execute than on controller. You can literally dodge shots with the mouse and spacebar.
Edit: This is what I originally wrote above but after talking to a good Gears player I have come to the conclusion that if the option comes to console then the advantage potentially can disappear as everyone now has the option to play with the same input device which makes it a slightly more level playing field.
The only snag that I can see is that some players might not be willing or unable to use mouse and kb. This is a complexed topic.
But I still say the mouse and kb is a more precise input device that can give an advantage to a player.
