Yeah I figure thats the main reason for not starting with higher base storage. The expansion slot at the back is great, I just hope that it can support big enough capacities, cause 2tb total will not be much. Seeing as consoles dont get updated often, you will have to live with this storage for the next 7-10 years

You only have to look at how console storage evolved over time to see that it won't be 1TB for long.

My original PS3 came with 80GB storage in 2006

By the end of its lifecycle it was up to 500GB, a 525% increase.

Early adopters will get 1TB, give it 2 years and it'll come with 2TB

Well my PS4 has a 4tb external HDD, and thats like 75% full. Given the free games you get each month, you can easily stockpile. Once its got to next gen and devs can use the full power of the system, game files will definitely increase in size.
I just know for sure that 1tb will not be enough to start with, especially in the long run.

Good things is it's interchangeable. Not doubt they'll come out with higher capacity models. But the costs are going to be large. The 1TB expansion will be $200 to $250usd I think. 2TB expansion, probably $500 to $600usd

As someone that tends to stick to one or two games at a time, I think 1TB will be fine for me.

What I probably will do though is get an external HDD, copy all my current Xbox One stuff to that, and then copy back and forth from that to the Series X SSD as and when I fancy.

From all the new information that came out yesterday, my only concern is about pricing, of both the machine and proprietary expandable storage. It's undoubtably going to be expensive, just hoping they don't price themselves out of the market.

That is why they will likely have higher capacity versions for people who have dozens of games installed. They can then pay the premium and not make peopleike me who do not need it to pay. For me there is zero point I having that many games installed. I like to concentrate on a few at a time.

With download speeds being what they are even if you have 50 games, you can just download and install what you want to play at worst overnight.

Horses for courses I guess, but yeah don't why we "need" to have dozens of games installed at once.

You don’t need to buy the latest high end GPU’s to play PC games.
Also, the people buying PC’s for gaming probably don’t just use it for that purpose and it’s likely they already have a console.

My 8 year old has a PS4 which he uses to play Minecraft but he wants to install and play Minecraft Mods which he can’t do on a console, so he uses my PC to do it.
On Saturday we were looking at the Gaming laptops in a shop and he said he didn’t want a PS5 for Xmas but one of those.

Great, but my point stands. The new consoles are far more attractively priced than a gaming PC.

By that logic why not just have 256gb capacity and play 1 game at a time?

Oh come on... There is a big difference between the two. I could then say by that logic why not have 40tb and never have to worry about space and have your whole catalogue of digital games installed and have plenty space for the rest of the lifespan of the console.

It is simple really. Comes down to cost. Why the **** do I want to pay hundreds of extra pounds on a base model when I and many will be happy with installing a handful of games at a time? Options are a good thing. I am sure they will have an option for you also and you can pay god knows how much extra they would want for 4tb.

This is what I may do, I have a 2tb usb drive already with my xbox x, but with the new xbox I would want to make use of the internal 1tb SSD. Like you I rarely have many games installed at the same time, I have owned my XBX since launch and have at most 8 games installed and still have a ton of space.
I don't mind deleting and re-downloading if I have to.

£2000 plus a monitor, speakers, keyboard, mouse, desk and chair? £3000?
Interesting - so you use a console standing up :p

Factor in a nice 4k TV to use with your new console (with Variable Refresh Rate), sound bar etc.. and you could be talking £3k+ too :p

BTW- We saw Gaming Laptops for around £1.2k running Fortnite at max settings at over 100fps .....and you can easily take it with you, anywhere :)

I only play a handful of games at a time. Storage is an issue on a portable like the Switch, but on an always online console I'll just pipe the game through my 10Gb connection as and when I fancy playing them. I appreciate not having to pay for many TBs of storage at £100's per TB!

With the expansion slot the crazies have the option of paying £250 for an extra 1 TB if they want it.
