I have no issue adding my own larger drive, but external hard drives you only get with SATA drives and not the super fast nvme's unless you are willing to spend a limb!

I would have rather the storage space be increased here with the cost of the console remaining relatively the same, especially considering the majority of money is made from the add ons (like the games, gamepass etc) and the consoles themselves have very fine margins

You could use DAS box with a pair of 3.5” drives over USB 3.1

A picture showing the package with 10 GDDR IC’s was released.

Microsoft's solution for the memory sub-system saw it deliver a curious 320-bit interface, with ten 14gbps GDDR6 modules on the mainboard - six 2GB and four 1GB chips. How this all splits out for the developer is fascinating.

"Memory performance is asymmetrical - it's not something we could have done with the PC," explains Andrew Goossen "10 gigabytes of physical memory [runs at] 560GB/s. We call this GPU optimal memory. Six gigabytes [runs at] 336GB/s. We call this standard memory. GPU optimal and standard offer identical performance for CPU audio and file IO. The only hardware component that sees a difference in the GPU."

In terms of how the memory is allocated, games get a total of 13.5GB in total, which encompasses all 10GB of GPU optimal memory and 3.5GB of standard memory. This leaves 2.5GB of GDDR6 memory from the slower pool for the operating system and the front-end shell.

You can add your own secondary (or likely primary) NVMe drive. I don't understand what you're getting at.

And MS (or Sony) are never going to choose to significantly increase the point of entry just due to storage capacity, on a console. That would be mad.

1 TB expansion cards for installed games, USB3.2 for other storage solutions.

Wonder how much the expansion cards will be, £150 buys you a fast USB SSD, NVME drive for 1TB is what? around the same? Proprietary slot and controller, gonna be expensive.

Yeah let's chuck a 4GB SSD inside and charge everyone a grand for it! Not going to happen.

1TB NVME drives drop under £100 regularly. One brand hit ~£85 a few times late last year. ~£150-£200 is 2TB promo pricing.

Time will tell. I'd guess at £150 for 1TB. Probably would have been a bit lower, but for the CVD-19 situation.

I don't see why we're not allowed to expand via USB, if it does indeed have 3.2 that's the same bandwidth as the NVMe internal? I assumed the hardware decompression was on the 'southbridge' equivalent not the drive itself, but maybe not?

if the game streams in assets and you attached a slow drive it would kill the game.

Anyone else seriously considering ditching their PC's (or at least not upgrading them) for an Xbox instead?

Nah. It’s a well equipped machine but pc just has more versatility to me.

I am one who likes to game both on TV with controller and monitor with K+M. Plus being able to customise and adjust games to my liking depending on settings, resolution, framerate, fov adjustments etc.

With many games being on pc and console with Microsoft I’d rather the extra power of my PC where possible.

Not to mention, won’t be long before we see new GPU’s and such. Next gen is likely to be pretty huge for both AMD and Nvidia.

Nah I won't be ditching PC either no way. I also like to game on both so will probably just get the PS5 and keep/upgrade my pc to suit. can always plug it in to the TV or play via steam link anyway if you prefer playing on the couch and with a controller.

As well as the good reasons above, there are certain games/series that appear only on PC (or are better on PC). Add modding to the mix and I don't see me giving it up any time soon. That's not to say that the X isn't a nice bit of kit.

I upgraded to a 5700XT when they released so I’ll still use the PC for gaming, however the new consoles make mockery of current highend graphics prices.

I can see them doing an Apple. Its not going to be nicely priced.

Well I'll be keeping my PC around but don't envisage upgrading it. I'll probably be moving to Apple for general computing (iMac) and buying both next-gen consoles. That should suit me nicely.

Looks great, as invested as I am with Sony (purely gamer ID since 2006 and the history with it) this is really tempting me especially with all the backwards compat upgrades. The silence from SOny is making me lose interest but I know it will be piqued as soon as they announce something. I'm not sure the X fits in with my semi decent PC.
