Mine was on for a few hrs last night as I did quite a bit of gaming. But once it’s cooled down then it turns off. Hardly heard it though and I think it’s a good feature to have as it cools the console down after use.

The issue is the Xbox uses something like 30 Watts in idle mode so the fan occasionally comes on to cool it down. It's silent though.

Has anyone had a Game preorder for a Series X forfilled lately?

I managed to get one preordered with them on 24th of November with a 24th December shipping date but I'm obviously hoping it might arrive before that.

There seem to be stock appearing in other retailers sporadically so I was wondering if Game shipped any out this week.

I am actually surprised how poor Game are in what is essentially their main business. I have been trying for the past month since launch and Smyth's and Argos have been the best. Currys and Game have just been poor with hardly any stock.

I also have to hand it to Smyth's. Collection only and I needed to provide ID to verify my name and address. This helps against scalpers. They could have been greedy themselves but just differentiates themselves from the other companies as the good guys. Argos seems to follow a similar model aswell.

It wouldn't surprise me if Game doesn't have the money to buy in stock and uses the pre-orders to raise the capital to buy them.

Not sure how relevant it is but Game has been under new ownership of NUFC's "well loved" Mike Ashley for over a year.

Charging people to pick up an item from a store is right up his alley though.

It can't take more than half hour to cool the components down. Sounds like a bug.

Well I managed to get a pre order for one back on Nov 10 and 2 weeks later I had my series x.
So I’m guessing that there is stock out there, mine was built in august 2020 but they are slowly releasing stock out to retailers.

They gave me a date of 18 December which I queried and they said by latest I should have it. But luckily for me I got mine well before.

Which from what I heard was only to secure the pre order, they later refunded the charge for instore pickups.
That’s what I heard last so not 100% sure on that though.

I don’t know I’m not an engineer so I couldn’t say lol.
All I am saying is that the console gets very toasty when it’s on. So if the fan, which is silent on mine is still running then I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing in all honesty.
It would be different if the fan was noisy then sure I could see an issue with that.

Yeah the fan comes on for everyone's Series S and X consoles occasionally in rest mode. They get quite warm too.

Ultimately why I don’t leave it on ‘instant on’ unless it’s the weekend or I’m on holidays. Hopefully that fan is reliable!

Is this on the public firmware update or still insiders?

I am curious if the change also fixes the problem I reported, Microsoft did fix the game reminder bug I reported.

I think it was the public one, down to 10W apparently.

I guess I'll have to sit tight and wait for Game as I haven't got the patience to monitor the drip feed availability at Smyths etc and at least have a preorder.
Having a FOMO overload as I've pretty much given up on looking for a 3080/6800 XT until next year and need at least one new toy until pubs open fully again. :p

I'm hoping MS Store will have regular stock by mid-February or else I'll lose my reward points. Knowing my luck, I'll end up having to buy the 1TB SSD and have no console! :D

It was only last night that it suddenly dawned on me why this controller is so comfortable. I hadn’t noticed that the curve of the main body of the controller continues onto the triggers. It makes the whole thing really comfortable. The texture is great too.

If you sit down with a cup of tea from around half seven to nine am you should be able to get one. You just need to be very quick. Have your card saved into Google so all you need is your security number and be logged into your Smyth's account. Have a list of Smyth's stores your willing to travel too and just be patient.

I missed out on a batch at Kidderminster because the missus gave me the third degree over driving 5 hours for a games console so took too long then Grimsby came up and I just went for it.

Argos is similar but their system seems flakey at best.

I’ve saved my card in Smyths website (is that what you meant by Google?) I’m on the hurt now, ordered the XBox elite controller (v2) and trying to source some Turtle Beach Stealth 700s (v2)

good choice mate, I have the v2 and 700’s, both nice with usb C and so so comfy. Now all I need to do is the Dolby Atmos, I hear great things from it.. (no pun intended).
