They call it a "Rogue-like" game in the Gamepass description.

I've never even heard of the genre before this.

About 40 years ago there was a game called Rogue. The game featured procedurally generated levels and permadeath. No respawning. No save games. Each play through was unique. A "Rogue-like" game follows this formula.

By contrast, "Rogue-lite" is a genre which has developed from the "Rogue-like". A "Rogue-lite" keeps many of the elements featured in Rogue, but not all of them. In the case of Hades, death isn't permanent and there is some carry-over progression, which makes it a "Rogue-lite".

Woohoo! Just had confirmation that my Sword X is ready for collection from Currys. Aside from Flight Simulator (and bearing in mind that I've had a PS4 for years so have played lots of cross platform stuff) what should I grab first from Gamepass?

Edit: Series X, obviously

Erh... honestly, just scroll through the catalogue and start adding things to the queue.

There aren’t many exclusives, but Gears 5, A Plague Tale, and Hades are awesome.

Is the series x really worth nearly double the money over the series s? I currently own a series s and the only thing that annoys me is the storage?

If you're on a 4K display, absolutely. I am having Fear Of Missing Out with my Series S lately and been putting off playing a lot of Game Pass stuff because I want to have the games in a higher resolution. But you still can't buy an X easily! Madness.

I can play at 4k but id rather play on a high refresh rate pc monitor, Its only used to play fifa really. The game pass is probably the best thing they have done though.

Both Ori games - masterpieces imo
Forza Horizon 4 - if you're into racing games and arguably even if not, as it's open world - im not into racing games and love Forza.
Halo Master Chief Collection - a lot of gaming here if you haven't played the series
Crackdown 3 - a bit marmite but I really enjoyed it
State of Decay 2 - cant go wrong with a bit of zombie slaying

Lots of other cross platform games worth a look if you missed them on PS; RE7, Outriders, Sniper Elite 4, Code vein, Streets of rage 4, Evil Within 1 and 2, The Surge 2, Dishonored 2, Zombie Army 4.

I have both and play on my Series S on a 1440p120 non-HDR screen about 80% of the time and my Series X 4K120 HDR TV 20% of the time.

The difference in graphics is surprisingly small in real-world scenarios. HDR makes a far bigger difference than the resolution and a few graphical settings, and the S runs most games at the same (or higher!) frame rates than the Series X (due to running at lower resolutions). The Series S also loads some games quicker.

Hmm... food for thought then! It might be better to divert the funds for a Series X towards a new PC/notebook and stick with my Series S.

Don't get me wrong, the X is easily the better console, but it's not as clear cut if you value loading times, frame pacing, and stable high frame rates over resolution.

It was my original intent to go with Series S+PS5+PC in the first place but I became fond of the S with things like Quick Resume that I sort of put the PC on the back burner.
