XCOM : Enemy Unknown - by Firaxis Games - Thread

Nooo. Why do I have a hopeless 3.5mbit connection. I want my cable back. :(

I'll set it download tomorrow. Play it to death and then decide if I need to charge up my rage cannon.

Hopefully not. ;)

Sadly i didnt even complete the demo. I dont really like it. The interface seems very clunky, i seemed to spend ages left clicking or right clicking only for the arrow to keep flashing.

Really didnt like it. The original is awesome tho and i still play it.

Ive cleared my dads loft for him today and come across my old Amiga 600 along with the old games including UFO. Cant wait to get it set up and play my old faves of the amiga ( UFO, Theme Park and Soccer Kid )

I remember UFO being quite painful on the Amiga 600. Lots of disc swapping and enemy turns that could last an hour

Ran so much better on my dad's PC at time :D (a 25 MHz 386!)

Enjoyed the demo. They've almost nailed the tension of the first game, and I do like the scale. Cutscenes were pretty good too.

Definitely glad I've pre-ordered this, now.

It's a tutorial, it will only respond to the key you're being asked to press.

Demo was awesome :) I think I may cave in and pre purchase this, for the first time... ever?!

I think it bodes well that I did the first mission with no casualties on my first attempt :p Go me! Wonder what difficulty that was?

Haha, replayed the demo, it certainly seems to be on Easy difficulty. Seems like you can't actually lose soldiers... I don't think I'm *that* good, in all honesty.

And I felt compelled to pre-purchase. Something I never thought I'd ever do :p

This game could be epic.

Also part V of the OXM playthrough is now up:

One last thing:

As suspected, the difficulty of the demo is set at the lowest level (Easy/ Normal/ Classic/ Impossible are the difficulties). You can change this in an ini file.

I tried Impossible for giggles, and actually did better than my two Easy attempts. Took no damage at all :p But you can see the difference. Our units had 4 health (down from 7 or was it 8), and the aliens had 7 or 8 health (up from 4). There were some minor AI changes but the demo level is too small to really see much impact there.
