XCOM : Enemy Unknown - by Firaxis Games - Thread

What i played of the demo last night i enjoyed. However i felt the demo far too short to give me a good feel for the game so I'm still on the fence with pre-ordering.

Completely off topic but i would love someone to remake fallout 2 on this engine! (This is IMO how FO3 should have been made)

Played a couple of goes through the Demo which I really liked but I have a question, at the end of the abduction mission, when the thin guys are found in the warehouse at the back, the voice over says I should attempt to capture one alive did anyone manage this? if so how? I could not figure it out must have missed something.

Im glad your rookie troops dont shoot your other squad members in the back of the head anymore that was rage inducing lol. I kinda miss the whole fog of war aspect though where things behind you would be greyed out!

Does anyone know if they have have tanks in this one like the previous Xcom games did, or is it just squads of soldiers?

After the longest download in Steam history I finally got to have a go this morning.

One major problem is the control system, which feels mega clunky, and will take some time to adapt to. Yet, in its defence, it does have an X-Com vibe. However, as a postman I was bothered by the appearance of a Royal Mail postbox in the German mission. :D

The rage cannon has been put away for the time being.

We don't know that, just because it is on easy, doesn't mean these are new recruits with low hit chance.

I don't think you can see alien movment behind you.

There are tanks.

Anybody can comment how does it look in 3d vision?

Yep, it doesn't look in 3d vision :D

Couldn't get it to switch on at all, have had that with a couple of pre-release titles lately. Nvidia may find a way to shim it once they get their hands on it, but doesn't look like it has any native or auto support currently.

undecided there seems to be a lot of cut scenes making game play disjointed?

scrolling seems a little clunky too.

The first mission is just the interface tutorial.

Was a bad choice I think to include this section in the demo. The second mission has no cutscenes and after the first two moves lets you issue your own squad orders.

Is there a way of skipping the tutorial and going straight to the 2nd small mission?

As a demo I thought it was fine.

Interface/control were fine - no problems really, a little restrictive the demo was & it did seemed designed for console gamers (assuming you are an idiot).

Veterans of the old X-Com series will find it tedious, but it was a nice way of showcasing the pretty nice stylisation of the game.

Already pre-purchased before the demo, now I'm glad I did.

Let's hope the real game is much harder/complex (which I'm sure it will be).

I really hope they add a feature to skip the tutorial section in the released game.

Not just for those of us who have played the demo but i can see it becoming very tedious everytime you want to make a new play through!

I pre-ordered this on steam last night with the elite soldiers pack some TF2 hats & Civ5 (if they reach a certain number of pre-orders), I hope it gets an option to pre-download though as I'm not sure I can wait with my poor internet speed especially as the demo was such a big download.

Anyone know how I can install a demo remotely with Steam, want to have it ready when I get home. Can install games in my library but not demos apparently.

Can try vnc but never works for me over 3G.

Edit: NVM, got vnc to slowly work.

Against my better judgement I pre-ordered. :o I went with one of supermarkets as I didn't fancy paying the prices big A seems to be trying to charge for its AAA titles these days. There's also no way I can go through downloading this off Steam again.

Apparently I still get the first preorder bonus (Guile ftw!), which is fine as the other two don't interest me.
