XCOM : Enemy Unknown - by Firaxis Games - Thread

I'm having a bit of a break from it until it's patched properly and there are some decent mods. Still think it's a great game though, but classic and impossible difficulties are broken imo.
 
Are there any interesting mods for the game available?

Unfortunately Firaxis seem to be deliberately making things difficult for modders at the moment, which is both sad for the players and for themselves given the success other games have enjoyed which is directly attributable to having a thriving mod community.

One of the better ones which is available is the Warspace Mod which tweaks the balance a little bit, nothing major but to me it feels like how the game should have been configured at launch; for example the stun launcher now goes in the pistol slot rather than the only inventory slot, this makes much more sense and allows a greater range of tactical configurations for your team.
 
Well i got the PLasmas Blaster Rocket laucnher thingy and i gotta say...i'm disappointed. I've used it twice and both times it failed to do any damage to the target but obliterated the surrounding cover so they had freee shots at my men.
 
I've reached the point now where I've used the psi chamber thingy and am now assaulting that massive alien ship. Am I right in thinking this is the final mission?

Also, I'm having fun with my psi dude who used said chamber. My entire team has titan armour except the psi dude who has psi armour. I've already managed to mind control a sectoid and get it to shoot at its own friends with its pathetic pistol. Looking forward to mind controlling a muton so it can grenade itself and its friends to death.
 
Ah man... Anyone got an abduction mission which takes place in a truck yard? I think the alien spawn points are a bit too close together! First turn did my usual head for cover and over-watch... on the last move to end the turn I trigger 2 spawn points Cyberdisk + drones and berserker + 2 muton combo... all my guys miss their reaction shots and my whole team died in seconds!

Was it sectopods (the big robot things) you were firing at? There is a bug with them not taking damage from rockets sometimes.

The Blaster Launcher normally does enormous damage.

Reading the patch notes again, I realise that it makes more changes than I initially thought; it's definitely worth it though, and almost a must for Ironman if you don't want to trust to luck to avoid those unfair wipes (which can still happen, but are much more likely to be because I messed up rather than got unlucky).
 
I really am enjoying this game! ...that Warspace is definitely worth a go, if nothing else, it cuts down on the number of ridiculous occurrences that happen....it makes the game far more tactical
 
AAAARGH! I had everything set up for capturing one of those crystal guys, positioned everyone perfectly then sent my guy in to the tile next to it, but it had full health of 8 so I only had a 30% chance.....so I had one of my other guys take a shot at him with a laser rifle which does 4 damage hoping to bring him down a bit.....of course it is a critical hit and it kills it:mad: Gonna have to wait for the next one now
 
Well game complete...

I enjoyed it for the most part, except the aliens doing criticals every shot from the other side of the map on classic.

Interesting seeing the stats at the end and the comparisons. I guess most of the world is cheating with massive amounts of researchers, engineers and credits!

Sequel?
 
Anyone played/playing on impossible at the moment? I have finished on classic ironman and it wasn't so bad once you have some vetted soldiers on your side. Wondering if its still balanced enough to be winnable?
 
not sure if that was asked earlier, but I have few soldiers 'on mission' while they are not...anyone knows why is that ?? Cant use my top guys because of that :/
