XCOM : Enemy Unknown - by Firaxis Games - Thread

Each to their own, RPS has for a long time now been my trusted goto gaming site, if you are the type that likes to skip the actual content and read the number at the end maybe you should check out IGN or Gamesradar or something.

The actual content? If you think excessive hyperbole is useful games review content then we'll just disagree.

edit: I just read the IGN review, not sure why'd you be disparaging towards them, it's pretty good compared to RPS.

The guys that write those reviews are some of the most experienced and well known reviewers in the games industry. But hey, reading's hard :p

Like I said, excessive hyperbole and a desperate need to be witty when I want to know about the game is hard to read. As in, hard to keep interested in wasting time reading it.

Although I did used to enjoy that style in PC Zone in the 90's.

RPS has always been written in the "look at me, I'm funny, aren't I?" desperado-geek™ kind of way, but they're normally on the mark when it comes to their assessment of a game.

Demo left me cold.

Pretty much the only rts that doesn't leave me cold is company of heroes, I don't know the genre doesn't excite me very much.

I felt the demo probably did the game a disservice in being too short, far as being cold, once you start losing guys it will tug on the heartstrings of even the coldest most cynical armchair generals, at least that's what I hope for :) so I will defiantly only be playing on Ironman mode or cannon fodder mode as I shall call it.

Company of heroes is good but I always preferred Men of war series myself, I think the base building in COH put me off, it never sits well with me in most RTS's it feels like town planning interferes with the combat.

It does if you go to reddit and search. I've done it and it works but not sure on posting conditions in here.

Hmm I've been trying a couple of the 'tunnel' vpn programs but keep getting a connection error when trying to connect to the steam client :(
