XCOM : Enemy Unknown - by Firaxis Games - Thread

im suffering cinematic overload. Is there any way to switch them off? I spent most of my time pressing Esc to skip them, and theyre the most irrelevant cutscenes ever. Just let me play!!!

Getting quiet far now, sectoid commanders are fun, took me a good 15 minutes of clever thinking to capture one without getting a guy mind controlled :)

Got full plasma, titan/archangel and ghost armour now, so much fun doing sneaky sneaky pew pew :)

I still think Xenonauts will be the game this should have been when it's released.

This is nuts, if Xcom was Xenonauts then we would have 2 games the same, instead we get Xcom and Xenonauts 2 similar games but different enough to get both and enjoy both.

Why is it people want multiple games exactly the same?

lol took me about 2 minutes to capture one. Using standard Snipers, Standard LMG, a few have plasma rifles and all have the first armor you unlock. Head shot with sniper then arc thrower.... winner... 1 guy got mind controlled but didn't do anything

Im playing on classic ironman not easy, things hurt a lot, I also have a full squad of colonels so don't want to mess up :P

Yeah I'm just playing on normal atm and the game is incredibly easy. Things do hurt a lot when I get hit. Guy took 9 damage on a critical and nearly died.... my bum hole was like a rabbits nose as he was my colonel

Looking forward to playing this tonight! Brings back epic memories, like how you could stun a sectoid and put him in your rucksack and continue the mission, only for him to wake up and run away later on

For those who have now played the game - how do you think the game experience compares to the demo? I loved the original XCOM and played it to death on my Amiga - but I wasn't keen on the demo when I played it - the maps were very small and confined, there seemed to be no inventory or "load-out" before the missions and the overall feeling was that it was a 'simplified' version of the old game.

However, I know that it's difficult to get a real feel for a game like this from such a short demo - so, I thought I'd seek the views of the fine people on this forum...

Thanks in advance... :)

Guys and gals with a physical copy - how big is the instruction manual? The steam manual is 5 pages, which includes the front and back cover and is largely useless. The sooner my strategy guide arrives the better ;-)

FREE! I can once again comment after a suspension. I can breathe the air once more!

Bought this two days ago, looking forward to a session tonight. Unlocked I hope?

Played the original to death back in the day so tried the demo last night was ok, so might take the plung apart from I couldn't get it working in Nvidia Surround it rendered the game upsidedown, quick google search found a few others with this problem but didn't really look hard for a fix.

Does the surround work in the full version?

The demo is in no way even close to doing the full game justice, there is an inventory/load out system before missions.

I've encountered a few large maps, large ufo landings, alien bases and some terror missions.

I had a large ufo land lastnight which took me over an hour to finish due to its size and the difficulty of some of the aliens. Sectopods are just evil, can one shot even the toughest of squaddies. Hopefully they will release a map editor of some kind or some DLC with numerous large maps.

How are fans of the original finding this?

Brilliant, a lot of areas are far better, some areas are dumbed down.

I love the cut scenes, love the abilities.
But I wish alongside abilities, we could distribute points like we used to be able to do.

Load outs are to small. As is the 6 man unit limit. just don't get why weapons explode if you kill the alien and all reserch needs weapon fragments, it's just pointless and doesn't make sense.

Other than that its either like the original or better.

Loved the originals, especially the music.

Is it open ended with random maps or is the game on rails with a set campaign?

Its on my list to buy.
