XCOM : Enemy Unknown - by Firaxis Games - Thread

i've a small issue with escort missions.

I get the VIP to the extraction area with all the team and nothing happens. I have to abort the mission. End turns and there's no enemy turn so guessing that means they are all dead.

2 missions aborted now and it's very annoying, any advice?

Think i've come to a brick wall.

I must have done my research in a messed up order or something because i'm getting outnumbered massively and outgunned hugely also. I'm getting hit for about 12-13 on critical hits and only my sniper can crit that high. Stuck on a mission that is like a race against time to rescue all the hostages but the enemies just keep spawning way too fast and then the disc thing comes along and just dicks me over. Might have to start again :(

I've been playing this game last few days and really enjoying it, though I'm sure I'll get to a point where I either give up or get bored. Been like that lately lol

Need some help, on a new map and my characters won't move, they'll fire, overwatch etc but wont move, doesnt even give you the option and the screen jumps away from them at every opportunity.

I've tried reloading, skipping turns, overwatching, even been out the game and back in, its stuck. I've put a lot of time in to the game, would be gutted to lose it now.

Also can;t leave the mission as my characters are standing outside the extraction zone.

I had that happen I updated to latest AMD drivers and it sorted it. 13.1 are the latest I think

On my third attempt at this now. Read up on a few articles on how to not suck and am doing better. Just taking it a lot slower in battles and getting up a lot more satellites.

Eventually had to edit the input.ini

.Bindings=(Name="F9", Command="Restartlevel", bPrimaryBinding=True)

Restarted the level, got my game back. Thought i'd post this in here in case anyone else has the same issue. :)

Got this with the Bioshock Infinite preorder. Loving it atm.

Think I must be nearing the end now. Had a bit of an iffy start (Normal difficulty, went Europe, which wasn't anywhere near as beneficial as I would've liked) and didn't follow the best of upgrade paths I think. Took me quite a while before I got any additional satellites up and was always struggling to afford even the basic upgrades. All my weapons were default and only a few had ugpraded armour at the Alien Base. Managed to pull through though (with only a few reloads of a level early on, mostly the first Terror mission which I eventually fluked with 15/18 Civilians saved).

Last mission I did was the Ethereal Device one. Only 1 satellite uplink away from complete global coverage. The last Firestorm is in production with EMP Cannons waiting for them. All research available has been completed and my squad is mostly Colonels and geared up with the endgame armours and all have the top level weapons.

My primary squad tends to be 1 Sniper in Ghost Armour (I've not really seen the benefit of the stealth so far), 1 Support specced for defensive smoke grenades and covering fire, 1 Titan assaulter with Alloy Cannon and Chitin Plating, another psionic Archangel assaulter with Alloy Cannon and Chitin Plating, 1 psionic Heavy and the last spot varies between my other Heavy, a high-level heal Support and a second high level psionic asaulter who has benefited massively from the Iron Will and is wearing the Psi armour with a Plasma Rifle.

Anyone got any tips for next time? I only really have a single team atm so if anyone is wounded or I send them the Psi Lab it can cause problems.
I'm thinking either starting as Africa for the funding boost which would be great with early game satellites or Asia for the discounted officer training which will really help get the ugprades earlier on and if I push 1 soldier to higher ranks quickly and level the rest slowly, I can get more benefit from Iron Will and have a better chance of psionically gifted soldiers later on. South America would be my first choice for satellite coverage as that Autopsy boost would be really handy but not worth starting as when it only requires 2 satellites, or is it possibly better to just get higher funded places first?

Also, is the SCOPE upgrade bugged? It doesn't seem to be providing any additional crit chance.

I'd get satalite coverage as a priority & have two or three squads rotating in different missions but have one guy that you level quickly to open the officer school perks earlier other than that I'd say playing on Ironman mode is the only other change you should make as it adds so much to the tension having the risk of losing a valued squad member improves the atmosphere no end.

Iron Man is where its at just make sure you rotate members of your squad frequently so you have some level'd up guys when your best man gets killed by a lucky crit from a thin man RIP Jayne Cobb :(

Ironman really is the only way to play tbh. I haven't tried second wave yet, as it is recommended not to play it with Warspace, which I was using the last time I played it.

Anyone tried out the free camera mod? I imagine it would greatly enhance gameplay.

Anyone still having issues with "teleporting" aliens ? I put my ironman game on hold after coming across this issue several times .... nearly had squads wiped out by this bug. Has the latest patch helped on this front ?
