Poll: XenForo

Should the new forum feature a "like" system? (note: this is like only, not dislike)

It does appear to have gone: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18278450

It may just have been deleted but that does seem like an odd choice.

Like this?

Where has the matched betting thread gone. I can't find it anywhere. Is it lost in the void?

Phew, it's back now.

Too many people spamming referrals.

This. A few people posted some messages and others turned the greed up to 11, which in turn turned the thread from a great resource of information in to a referral minefield. Started getting a bit desperate tbh. Hope it comes back though :)

Yup, just a case of the minority spoiling it for the majority but it's a good thread so watch this space :)

That's a gash answer. It's not just a small number to ignore. It's the reposts, the memes, the constant crap posting for points and so on. It is way more than just a number to ignore, it actively lowers the quality of the content being posted by people that are searching for the lowest common denominator to win internet points.

Nonsense

People do that **** now.

Or is this simply another "I'm so superior everyone else is a pleb" post.

Mr Kettle, Pot rang. Something about "Black".

Providing a number provides a score. Providing a score legitimises the game and distracts from the proper intention.

See StackOverflow and their constant struggle with maintaining decent content and moderation, see reddit and their perpetual fight with vote brigading, bot voting (both positive and negative) and constant development of their now hideously complex algorithm for scoring, see Facebook and the plethora of "Click like if you want to see more/agree/disagree/other" click-phishing, see Youtube and their constant changes to thumbs up/down and comment scoring.

Seriously. Giving people points makes it a game that takes the focus away from the whole bloody point.

It's what has kept me entertained here for 15+ years - that the content is left to speak for itself and isn't clouded with some inane and asinine "approval rating" with likes/dislikes or upvotes/downvotes etc. that would otherwise turn the place into an echo chamber to avoid getting bombed because someone dared argue against the grain, or ask a daft question.

Yes. XF is responsive so the same view will compact down to any size screen.

Erm...

It's not responsive if the same view is scaled down to any sized screen. Responsive means removing most of the content into hidden menus and making less information visible on the screen if it's smaller (even if the pixel count is the same).

This website currently scales down to any sized screen.:p

Definite no to likes from me. If there was an upvote and downvote which linked to a counter on a persons profile... you could identify trolls/idiots over a period of time and knock them on the head.

We converted over to XenForo in the last few days. Less posts but more members. Went pretty smooth, really liking XenForo so far. Really easy to skin and modify. Looking forward to getting it here too.

No youd just identify who doesnt agree with the SC mob.

Or the nvidia mob or the amd mob etc

Disappointed it's not gone live yet :(

As for the LIKE system, I really couldn't be less bothered about it.

The OcUK forum is a great forum and I really don't think a LIKE button is going to cause half the issues people seem to have with it.

Just realised what this thread was and realised it is the same forum software they use over on AVforums. Which I thoroughly dislike lol it just takes longer to load and doesn't nagivate as smoothly. And the amount of accidental 'likes' and other random buttons I hit when scrolling through on my mobile is annoying :p
