Xonar DG - ultimate budget headphone card?

any1 with the DG and Roccat kave 5.1s get the horrible echo/crapy sound fixed?

ive downloaed the uni drivers and still cant seem to get it tweaked properly.

:confused::(

I never got it fixed. In fact I got so fed up I threw my Xonar in the bin and bought another Creative X-Fi instead which sounded a million times better and no hint of tinny/echo.

I've seen a few people say the DG is not so good with 5.1 speakers, that it is much better with stereo headset/headphones. I assume the same must apply to multi driver headsets, Kave's, etc.

im still plugging away googlein HARD! to get it sorted. :p

ive a couple of new options to try so ill get back with any findings for any1 with the dg/roccat combo.

Yeah they added a delay on the rear speakers which is why you get the echo on 5.1 headsets. It's not noticeable with speakers but with headphones the drivers are so close to your ears it's an obvious issue, the UNi drivers do infact remove this 'feature' along with some other 'features' present on Asus's drivers.

Can someone help me.

I cant find a option to upmix 2 channel audio (my music) to 5.1 for when using my 5.1 speakers (not headphones) (what is the asus DG's equivelent of stereo surround (cmss)? Also my headphones the left and right are the wrong way around. Can someone help switch them to the correct left and right.

Uni drivers suppose to fix the 5.1 headset echo issue (caused by the delays asus did for 5.1 speakers i think).

I tried them with my Roccat Kaves and those drivers made absolutely no difference.

It still sounded like you were in a massive concrete bunker all the time.

same for me. ingame sound for bad company 2 and medal of honor just aint happening. :(

although, a small plus is that blu ray movies seem to be working. ive moved the center and sub slightly closer to the head in the 7.1 shifter and added a little extra bass in the EQ. Towards the end of the 2nd part of band of brothers after a great gun battle the speakers i think sounded a little more crisp than at the start. i think the assorted gun and explosion sounds seem to have broken the kaves in a little. i used these settings

im gonna keep working on getting ingame sorted for another while until i decide if im gonna get a better card to suit the kaves or vice versa.

I really dont like this sound card it is pap imo compared to the audigy 2 zs. I mainly got this for the headphone amp, stereo seperation and the easy front panel connector. The headphone amp does f all except make it a bit louder, the stereo seperation is ok i guess, the front panel doesnt work my headphones are reversed so would have to mess about like i did with the audigy2zs. Think im just gona switch the sound back.

£20 for a sound card and a headphone amp, you can't really expect a miracle, that said the amp does make a difference in terms of quality but like all audio equipment you need to find the equipment that it works well with.

im sending both the dg and kaves back, didnt turn out to be the best combo. individually they both can perform no doubt,, but together theres issues when it comes to 5.1 in shooters like bad company 2 ect.

i would have kept the DG as i think its a banging little card but i had to move my gpu to the 2nd x16 slot so the dg could sit above it. this then meant that the power wires from my gpu wer touching the side panel fans which i wasent happy about. so im now looking for a pci-e card that takes on the dg.

Got my DG yesterday, the difference in quality (In music and Dvd's, less obvious in games) is like night and day coming from Onboard.

Feels like my maximum volume (i use a headset not speakers) is lower then before though. Although logic tells me max volume depends on my headphones not my soundcard? Is that true?

The DG has a headphone amp. Just up the gain in the Xonar control panel.

You are not the first person I have seen that has said the volume is not as loud as it was when onboard audio was used. The other guy that mentioned it, was referring to his Xonar D2/D2X.

From my experience, I've always found onboard a lot quieter than any sound card, at maximum volume.

I struggle to see how a simple audio solution on a motherboard, can provide more volume than a dedicated sound card, that has dedicated audio components. Something a motherboard does not have.

Hey guys, I have had a horrible experience with Roccat Kave's, am just about to send back the 2nd pair OcUK have sent me. OcUK have been very hepfulp but I am getting bad static on both the pairs I have tried, and OcUK tested the first pair so I am sure it's not just me and my setup. Also took the Kave's into work today and same problem, I guess they just suck.

I am now looking at the Corsair HS1 or HS1A. Basically, if the HS1 works with PS3 I will get them, but if they don't I will get the HS1A and an Xonar DG. Can anyone confirm if the HS1's work with PS3, google is fruitless. OR, would I be best using my subpar speakers for PS3 and getting the HS1A's and xonar DG as I am predominantly a PC gamer and don't use the PS3 that much.

Thanks in advance.

HS1's only work with PC's, you need the HS1a to connect to a PS3. Hs1's use USB, which the PS3 will not recognise. Check a review on You tube, if you want to confirm this elsewhere.

I use a 3.5 jack adapter for the PS3 and stick it on the AV cable supplied with the console.

But not tried HS1A's yet, but it works with other 3.5 jack headphones...like Creatives.

Cheers

Von
