Xonar DG - ultimate budget headphone card?

Truth be told they were both fine when I used them with my Z5500's, however with my beats by dre studio hd's the SB X-Fi beat the xonar DG

An Xtreme Audio is better than a Xonar DG you say?? Erm... :rolleyes:

And you paid £170+ for a set of headphones that are made by Monster, the same Monster that have made quality audio products such as, er... Cables? Granted, every company has to start somewhere, but £170+ gets you one hell of a set of Sennheiser's!

Does anyone know how to boost the mic output volume using this card ? it works fine using a program like mumble but other games built in voip as well as Microsoft sound recognition dont seem to pick up anything unless i literally yell into the mic. Does anyone know how to change the settings for better microphone boost ?

I am thinking of ordering this card today, and wanted a bit of advice.

I want a sound card basically just for Dolby headphone, and I have heard this ideal for that purpose. However although I will primarily be using my computer with headphones, I would also like to connect some 2.1 speakers occasionally for listening to music and watching films.

I was concerned that being a budget card the xonar dg wouldn't be suitable for powering speakers? If it isnt what would you suggest.

Lastly - I have a pair of goldring ns1000's. They have a very short cable, but they are still usable plugged into the front panel. I have never installed a soundcard before so I don't know how it works. Do I plug the front panel connectors into the sound card? (do you even need to?) I guess basically I want to know if I will need to buy an extension cable for my headphones?

I'm no audiophile but the Xonar sounds pretty good with my Z506 set.

Yes, plug the front panel connector into the sound card. I'm using the rear though because the front panel seems to introduce a faint high frequency noise to playback. Even if you did need to get an extension cable, they are cheap :)

I have the Dg and my speakers run perfectly with no trouble , you just plug the wire from the front panel that went to your mobo into the side of the soundcard though i think people would advise you to consider buying a extension cable for the goldrings and a speaker switcher as front panel can suffer from interference from what i have learned.

The plantronics speaker switch would let you easily switch from headphones to speakers with a flip of a button. there's another version both found on the ranforest site that does the same thing but has volume control built in.

Apologies for this but...
I've searched around but to no avail...

Is there ANY way to turn off jack sensing?

Why I ask is because I normally use;
* Game audio through 5.1 speakers from the rear outputs,
* ventrilo through a small "telephone" headset, (ie 1 small phone, 1 mic, means I can hear everything) plugged in the front panel

...at least I did with my onboard audio that had 6 outs rear and 2 front.

But of course with jack sensing I end up with the DG swapping to 2x front headphones..

Can this be done?

Can the DG run this set up?( It can run 8 channels apparently so it should be capable... 5.1+2...)

I've asked Asus but had the usual (non-existant) response..

Is my only option to try and run the onboard for front panel concurrently with DG for 5.1? and cross my fingers?

I should have researched better because I think I know the answer thats coming back to me.... I wouldn't have bought the card if I knew this... :o

Awesome card. I've had one for a few months now and am very pleased with the quality of audio for the price. For music i get a much deeper crisp bassline and for gaming mixed with Sony MDR XD-200 headphones i can pinpoint foot steps in FPS games....gives me the edge.

Maybe you can use the C-Media control panel (with these drivers) instead of the ASUS one; it shouldn't have jack sensing.

Does this card from OCUK have digital out? It doesn't show it on the pic but it's there on other sites. Thinking of getting one for my HTPC.

any1 with the DG and Roccat kave 5.1s get the horrible echo/crapy sound fixed?

ive downloaed the uni drivers and still cant seem to get it tweaked properly.

:confused::(

If i plug my cases front panel thing into the DG will it still give the headphones the amp part that is built into the DG or not. I assume it does because the front panel is connected directly to the soundcard so its more of a extension for easier access. I would be disappointed if i had to plug the headphones around the back of the case all the time.

My cases front panel.
