Yesterdays Arrivals! (Kittens)

Do you have any idea of where he went during that time? I would be amazed if my cat "got lost" and then returned back 6 months later.

No idea whatsoever, he was quite skinny when we found him. I can only think that he was living rough in our area; my other half found him in a wood yard at the end of our street. Most likely the injury to his eye disorientated him, though the vet seemed to think it could only have happened within the last 2-3 weeks before we found him.
The time he went missing was around bonfire night/diwali - lots of fireworks freak 'em out. It's my guess he was outside and got frightened by the loud noises then got too far away to find his way back properly, either that or he got bashed up by the local siamese (kato) who used to fight anything with more than 2 legs.
We put up lots of posters when he first went missing. Tbh it was pretty gutting to loose him. Once he'd been gone for more than a week I'd resigned myself to the idea that he'd gone, and by the time he'd been missing for over a month I had assumed the worst had happened.

Prodigal son indeed. The cheeky little git :D

Thanks :)

They are getting pretty heavy now and at full stretch including tails they are probably just under a meter long, i dread to think how large they are going to be fully grown. The awesome thing is i have trained them to lie across my shoulders when im working at my desk as a neck warmer :D

Thanks :)

These are certainly large cats.

My Egyptian Mau, (a small cat), 9 months old, is about 75cm, nose-to-tail.
My Bengal (a large cat), 8 months old, is about 90cm, nose-to-tail.

This puts it into perspective just how large the Maine **** breed is.

Awwww, he's long haired isnt he?

If he is make sure you brush him lots and buy something called katalax to stop him getting furballs, my long haired cat gets them pretty bad :(

I do and he does get the odd fur ball but only in one place under his arm so its quite easy to keep in check :) But yes very long haired, its a nightmare really but so worth it :)

Maine **** cats are awesome! We have one called Alfie, he spends most of his day sleeping, catching mice, curled up on your lap and getting fat. Here's the mugshot:

:D

Wow, he looks exactly like one of mine :)

And yeah they are amazing mice and bird catchers, they bring in an average of 5 mice a week from the field and orchard behind my house, and 3 birds to date.

We're always amazed at how quick he is for such a bit cat! Alfie lives with my parents (rural Derbyshire) and not here in Sheffield, he's always catching mice in the fields and round by next door's stables :)

Here's our cat... We think he has Maine **** in him, although both his parents were regular moggies...

He has sort of Maine **** markings, but all his brothers and sisters and parents were run of the mill cats...

Cost us £20 and no one else wanted him - his regular looking brothers/sisters went first...

Only about 6 months old and they grow for 4 years (or so im told).

For 6 months of age, that is HUGE. But it is to be expected from a Maine ****. I believe the only other breed that matches it for size is the Norwegian Forest Cat.

The only thing that turned me off of buying a Maine ****, was the hair. In the end I went for 2 short hair cats.

No its the same with cats, theres no cure to common flu, they just have to get over it. Vets do however proscribe antibiotics, but mine didnt untill the second time i took them in, which im angry about because i reckon that if he'd had the antibiotics sooner he might still have his meow/purr. So if you think your cat needs it just hassle the vet to prescribe the pills, although they are a pain in the arse to feed to the cat.

I'd guess it's the same as with humans - the chances of it being bacterial and antibiotics helping are probably about the same as your cat getting side effects from the anti-biotics (nasty diarrhoea)...

I forget exactly, something like £200. They had already had all injections + 2 months of paid pet insurance in with that though, so not a bad price imo for a pedigree pure breed.
